  • URGENT HELP NEEDED ! error copying files??

    [[:|]]

i just got the 1st edition giga cube! now when i i starting copying from DVD to my IDE
i get this error ( which i have never seen on windows)

    " CANNOT COPY...FILE NAME..INVALID MS-DOS FUNCTION.

it so far happend on 15, 16 timp and most of the files in the drums and cymbals folders of disk 1 of percussion set.
any one ever see this? happens on my scsi as well.
so far disk #2 is coping well- so this appears to be inconsistant and relative to these files. any ideas??
    system is
    wk2 sp2 ausu p4 2.4 gig 800 bus 1 . gig 400 ddr ram
    thanks

    mike

  • MIke, it could just be the DVD. Go through the rest of the library and install what you can. Then call me with what wouldn't install. And we'll go from there.

Meanwhile - you should just be opening Windows Explorer and dragging the files into the Gigs Folder. On my system, I have one folder labelel VSL -01 for the Cube and VSL-02 for the Performances.

  • mike, you're running W98 - right?
unfortunately it turned up that some of the DVDs are slightly out of the specification (one reason we had to change the manufacturer) - of course you will receive a replacement by your dealer or ILIO - sorry for this inconveniance
thanks peter for helping out so quickly

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Thanks, Chris. Mike ordered from Truespec the other day so we wanted to stay on top of this for him.

  • i did a google search on the error and a few dvd users had the same problem. it seems more common on windows 2000/ xp( i have 2000)
it does appear to be some sort of format issue. a few people specualted it was their dvd- but so far it is reproducible on certain files.
one problem is is that the error comes up at the end of the coping process
so if i take the viola folder for example then wait 15-20 min, the error pops up. so i have to do each file individually - it takes forvever to see which one will take! late last night i got about half of the strings to copy-
    i'll call you today.
    thanks

Isn't this the one file that crosses layers on the 2-layer DVD? I think I installed it by loading it into my Mac and then sending it over.

I have the Performances in the same folder as the Cube instruments! It's interesting how great minds think differently.

  • Just a note here:

I had some trouble with copying from the DVDs (on a Mac OSX). My workaround was to create a new folder on the VSL drive called "Samples" and then copy only the contents from DVD's Samples folder. In every case where the folders within the new Samples folder would not copy properly, I created yet another new folder, copied and pasted the original folder name onto the new folder and then proceded to copy the data to the proper locations. Yes, it was very time consuming-- took about six hours to complete Strings, Winds, and Brass-- two more hours to complete Percussion.

Fortunately, there were no problems with copying the ".wav" files themselves.

    Good luck...

  • [:@] preliminary test are pointing to the dvd rom itself.
perhaps i'l sample it being smashed to pieces. i'll post the accurate results as soon as i know whats going on -

    btw system is
    asus p4C800 windows 2000 sp2
ide dvd rom - lite on 16x

as it turns out it was a the dvd rom player"lite on "
that had problems copying the files . this appears to be related to dual layer dvds. i put in s sony dvd ( peters advice here)
and now the files are loading properly.
thanks peter, jordan and everyone eles

  • You're welcome, thanks for the update!

  • I had the same problem when I copied the files from my set to the hard drive using the drag-drop method (xp, samsung dvd/cdrw combo). When I tried the right-click-copy and right-click-paste method, everything went in without a hitch. Weird....since it's supposed to be the same thing, but it worked [:)]
