  • System Requirements Question

    Hey all,

As part of a major rig upgrade, I'm about to take the leap from Pro Ed to VI, and wanted to get some feedback regarding system requirements from those of you who are running similar setups -- before I start loading the samples in.

I have a 3GhZ Quad (16GB RAM, 3x750GB Barracudas) which will solely (and natively) be running Logic and various virtual instruments -- namely, VI. DSP and audio will be provided by a separate, TDM-running Mac.

My query is this: can I realistically expect that one machine to carry a full, large-scale symphonic cue on its own, or is another Mac (or more) needed? How many instances could I expect to *comfortably* run, before I start "tap dancing" with sample optimization? Ideally, I'd like to have full templates pre-made, as opposed to creating smaller, custom ones from scratch each time.

Furthermore -- how many instances do you find yourself using per orchestral section, on average? Workflow-wise, what are some of the "bottlenecks" and "slowdowns" you find yourself consistently encountering, if any?

    Thanks in advance,
