  • Dynamics in Bowings..

In the older VSL editions such as horizon:

We had two different samples to load for p and f in legato etc.

And each of these p and f samples had their own velocity layers.

However in the new VI - we dont have two seperate dynamics samples. And they only seem to have 2 velocity layers.

I had Orchestral Strings 1 and Brass 1 before - and I dont remember myself having any problems then.

But now I have got most of the VI cube - and was playing the Alto flute the other day and found myself in this problem - it either sounds really quite or too loud suddenly when using legato. And I found that these samples only had two velocity layers.

How do people overcome this problem? Surely it was possible earlier and I am sure it is possible now - but how to achieve the middle ground in the dynamics for such bowings?

Or may be something has gone wrong in my library - because I recently updated the files from the updates section - and I had not done this earlier.

And one final question: How do people achieve faster repeated lines with movement? For example a repeated Spiccato line? I know the performance trills have 6 up and down variations but they are rather legato like.

Any solutions for other kinds of repeated bowings? And I imagine people use crossfading or two midi tracks to connect repeating notes.

For example - If you have the note c repeated three times and then it goes off to G - how do you connect C and G? Do you use the spicato performance to connect the third repeated note of C and the first note of G - then back to the repetetion performance sample? And same for Legato?
I mean this is a small example - imagine this in a faster line with some movement - triplets of C and then triplets of G and back to C and then D etc etc...

Just trying to discuss some ways of achieving realistic bowings etc....

Any input will be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Best,
    Tanuj.
