  • How is the playability of VI Bosendorfer?

Is it better than the one EWQL put out a few years ago? That one sounded great... if you only played 1 or 2 notes, but sounded like mud if you had any kind of complicated passage work. Is the VI version really playable LIVE?

  • It's certainly playable live (if you don't mind taking a laptop on stage) and the sampling, as with all VSL instruments, has been beautifully done. But there's no such thing as a perfect sampled piano - they all have subtly different characteristics and whether thay work for you depends on your touch, your expectations, your experience and most importantly, the musical style(s) you work in.

To get an idea of its suitability for your music you should listen to the demos on this site and compare them to piano demos you hear elsewhere.

I've heard Guy's recordings, but were they performed without any editing? Were they performed in Universal Mode? I am trying to find out how playable this is without having to change any articulations. Live.

  • There are no articulation changes for the piano.
You load the Preset you like (mike position) and simply perform.

  • It's totally playable, just like a "live" one. You can switch from the pedal up samples to pedal down with a controller if you want, but you don't have to. It is completely straightforward with no complications. It is an incredible sound, just beautiful.

Just for small corrections here and there, wrong notes, occasionally some minor velo adjustments and that's relative to your interpretation. But as William said, it's very simple, like recording from a live piano, but you could make corrections.

  • Well - regarding the initial question, I'd say that if it is good enough for Boesendorfer themselves, it may be good enough for us, too!
