    Is it possible to open an instance of VI with a preset template? I'm guessing not, but it would be very handy, and would save a huge amount of time. I've renamed copies of the dll for the various orchestral instruments, so it would be nice to load an instrument template without having to open the GUI and load the fsb file manually.

    isn't it possible to save a preset called startup.fxp also for the plugin? should be mentioned somewhere, but i don't find it right now ...

    Sounds interesting - so how does that work? You open "Trumpets" rather than "Vienna Instruments"? Could be niiice...

    That's exactly what I do, except I have at least 4 .dll for each instrument. I've just read the "changes" document for 1.11 and it seems that as cm says, there is support for this feature. Of course it gives no hint on how to do it. I suppose that I am expecting too much. [8-)]

    You can do this from within Logic but I'm not sure if that's what you're getting at?

    I've saved all my VI instrument presets together with their EQ and Directional Mixer settings as Channel Strips. It's then just a case of selecting a new Instrument track and opening the required instrument via the Channel Strip selector - that opens the VI, recalls the relevant patches and settings and applies EQ, Dynamics and Panning automatically.

    Is this the sort of thing you are thinking of?

    Yes and no. I need to be able to do all this in any VST host.

    DG, unfortunately i don't have a host here, but using the stand-alone it is simple:
    - create your own preset and save it as *startup* (the .fxp extension might be visible or not depending on your system settings)
    - close and re-open the VI player, the preset is now loaded automatically

    Yes, that also works in the VST version; thanks. However, even though I've renamed the .dll for each instrument (so that the host reports them as separate instruments; much easier to keep track), VI thinks they are still the same, so I can only store one startup preset. is there any way that I can store multiple startup presets that are somehow connected to the name of the .dll?

    Whilst we are at it, I spend ages naming the VST outputs. If would be good if there was a way for the .dll name to be transferred to these as well.
