  • Using Tiger's free software to run VI

I just set up a mac mini drone computer to host VI. I'm going to attempt to host VI using the included AULab software that comes with the developers tools package. Im also using the built-in midi over ethernet. Has anyone used AULab? I've only had a little bit of time with it, but it seems simple to use so far...

  • Hi, I've not tried the AULab, but I'm using Ethernet network MIDI and that works really well, better than using an external interface actually. I've got a ProTools|HD rig running on a new quad 2.66 MacPro and then I'm using my old 2x1GHz G4 to host VI. I'm actually running that with Logic Pro as a host - well, I own a copy so I may as well use it, although I prefer the simplicity of PT for recording - hopefully we'll get an RTAS version of the VI eventually! But I'd really interested to know if AULab works as that'd probably be a much less resource-hungry solution. Good luck with that!

  • AULab is pretty buggy and is not a supported product so use it at your own risk. It really only exists as a demonstration vehicle for Audio Units.

  • I tried using AULab a while back and gave up. This was mainly due to bugs in being able to save presets. Possibly a later version is more bug free - who knows!
