  • VI Midi Playback Note Cut-Off Problems, Via Forte

During midi playback of a couple of pieces on my Dell XPS 400, some sustained notes of certain VI instrument sounds are getting cut off. The problem has been narrowed down to the VI routing through Brainspawn's Forte VST.

And not only do the long notes get cut off (with a "Zooping" sound, as they are cut off) it happens to the SAME NOTES each playback!!

I should emphasize, that these specific notes (via Logic) have been throughly checked and rechecked, to ensure they were written properly (they WERE).

Is anyone else having a problem similar to this, when running their VI player through Forte, and can offer some possible tweaking advice?? Thanks!!

  • I have the same problem when I load more than a dozen of VI instances (PowerMac G5 Quad, Mac OS 10.4.7, 4.5 GB RAM, Digital Performer 5.11). In my case it must have something to do with CPU/RAM/harddisk overload; the same instruments sound fine when I keep the number of instances down.

  • I'm having that problem too. My experience of it is rather more random. Sometimes everything is fine, sometimes the bassoon cuts out, sometimes the horn, sometimes the bass... The notes start OK then they cut off and I get what sounds like a release sample at the velocity off point. I'm running 20 instances of VI SE on a Mac Quad 2.5 OS 10.4.9 8GB RAM and DP 5.11. The problem often goes away of its own accord if I play through some of the offending notes on the keypad of VI. Obviously with this number of instances running on one computer I'm running high buffer settings for playback but I'm not experiencing any CPU peaks and the RAM usage seems under control. Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

  • i'm experiencing the same note cut off problem on a dual 2.0 G5 with VI hosted in RAX. often if i just play a bunch of random notes the problem goes away for a while but it's very annoying when it happens during a virtual mix. it happens when running as few as 2 instances.
any insight would be much appreciated.
    thanks, dan

  • Can anyone help with this? It seems to be getting worse and it's making working quite difficult as I can't hear all the notes that are playing. Am I missing something obvious?

  • Apart from the obvious cause of CPU overload, the only thing I can think of is to check the VST host and make sure that the VI is not inadvertently receiving on more than one MIDI channel. Forte lets you have all 16 MIDI channels active within one instance of the VI, and as the VI is permanently in MIDI omni mode (that's the way it's built) it will attempt to play all channels simultaneously, which (depending on your sequences) might occasionally result in note-cutoffs.
