  • Can't find the same VSL preset in the VI patch

I did a search in the forum but did'nt find any answer:
As manu of us, I used the VSL before the VI came.
But where in the VI can I find the simples VSL presets as:
"VI-6_perf-leg_p_slow.exs", every VI perfect legato patch is always combined with another one. (piano and forte, etc…)
    Same for the Violin_ensemble_fingertremoli (VI-14_tr_MA-3.exs)

Thanks a lot for any help, I know this question should have been asked a long time ago [[;)]]

  • In short, if I want to play the perf legato bass flute "p" version, what should I do ?
I can only load both p and f, not easy to play.

  • Hi Laurent - some keyboards allow you to alter their MIDI velocity scaling so that however hard you play, the upper velocity will be fairly low and you'll only trigger the 'p' samples. You might also be able to set up your sequencer's record track to automatically reduce the note velocities as you play.

I think in general it;s a good thing to have multi-dynamic perf legatos, but I undertsand it's alos nice sometimes to work with just one layer.

  • Thanks Conquer, but instead of having to tweak my sequencer each time I want to play a note, i would rather have a clue on how to get my hand back on those basic VSL presets "-)

Maybe I should change the subject to "where are the basic VSL preset located ?"
    How can I build a patch with a bass flute p and a p marimaba ?
Any answer from the VSL team please ? [:O]ops:

  • Any perf legato piano will be automatically triggered, if your velocity is less than 88, any forte patch at velocity level 89 - 127.

The former velocity splitted mappings for the old sampler versions, were only done, because in the beginning the samplers couldn't manage the amount of mapping zones, which were needed for performance legato patches with more than one velocity. Therefor a dedicated piano and dedicated forte mapping has to be done.

So this was only stopgap, and I'm happy that this are things of the past.

  • Thanks for your answer Herb,

So what about the song compatibility between the VSL and the VI ?
Finaly, the answer is that we can't convert a song made with the VSL to a VI format ?, weird !

And we can't built our personal layers (p flute perf legato + p chamber violin perf leg) now in 2007 because of the old samplers limitations ?
What if I want to add a layer at velocity level 89 - 127 combined with those two others ? Will I get the f flute and f violins even if I don't want ?
I thought I could manage the patches to build any combinaison of layers, and now I'm stuck into some premade patches I must deal with… [:'(]

  • You can layer any instrument you like.
So no problem to layer flutes and chamber strings.

To convert old projects shouldn't be a problem.
I've converted everything done with the old formats,
The main work is to merge 10 or more miditracks previously used for a single instrument into one miditrack and than reassigning the controllers for articulation switches.

The RAM optimize function helps to unload unused samples.

That not an easy thing to do and it's quite time consuming.
i can't afford the time to reprogram a perfect legato forte bassoon midi track played from velocity 30 to 127, manage it's VI forced piano version inside, what a waste of time !…
    The conclusion is that:
You can't build your own patches, they are premade and you've to deal with.
For the basic patched, the VSL are hardly compatible with the VI.

Beside the fact i'm very happy with your products and will continue to buy them, there is some new evolutions that make us loose some precious time.
