  • Special woodwinds numbering

Could you please tell me why the special woodwinds instruments numbers are identical to some other instruments ?
Now my woodwinds list is not as clear as before, why didn't you continue with higher numbers ?

    I have:
    34 Alto Flute
    34 Bass Flute
    38 English Horn
    38 Heckelphone
    42 Basset Horn
    42 Basson

Is there a way to make custom folders of desired instruments ?
For exemples, the most used in one, the very rare in another one, etc ?
Or I shoudl only make some user patch and organize them ?

  • Hi Laurent - yes, it seems odd to have duplicate numbers. VSL have sampled so many instruments now, it must be hard for them to keep track!

    >Is there a way to make custom folders of desired instruments ?

You can't edit or rename patches, but you can create your own matrices and save them in custom folders. I guess that wouldn't help you with the numbering issue though!

  • The numbers are only a vehicel to get the instruments sorted in the right order, especially if you have all VI woodwind collections.

    Piccolo
    Flute 1
    Flute 2
    Alto flute
    Bass flute
    etc.

  • Thanks for that Herb. Once again we see there is no madness in the VSL method!

  • So the logic is to maintain the orchestra's place ? and nevertheless put the Oboe -a3, flute -a3 etc at the end ?

  • Yes, that's the logic. First the solo instuments, than the ensembles.
This logic is affected by the strings, here you get first all solo strings, than the chamber ensembles, etc.
I think this way of sorting gives a better overview and offers a faster workflow, especially if you want to setup string quartetts for example.

  • Thanks, it's now clear how to fast find an instrument in the VI hierarchy [[;)]]
