  • Load time?

I was wondering: With so many instruments in the VSL, will this slow down the bootup/load time of Logic (for the EXS24 version) ?

I have heard folks complain on many usergroups that their bootup time is as long as 5 minutes [[:|]] with several Gb of sampler instruments.

  • Bumping this question up to the top again..........

  • I have a big collection of sample instruments on my hard drive, and Logic still can't "find" them all! There is a restriction of 4 folder layers and maximum 1000 entries per Folder, I'm informed, but this doesn't explain all the missing folders. And it's also true, a big sampler instrument list does slow Logic's loading time. I'm not sure that EXS24, fabulous though it is, has the power to handle all that may be demanded of it by VSL in terms of polyphony and file size/structure. But we have to assume that VSL are working togther with Emagic to bring us a usable product! [:)]

  • I asked our EXS mapping team to post their experience, to give you first hand informations. They seem to be very busy now [[;)]]
    maybe tomorrow.

I just want to tell you a little about the history of the Vienna Symphonic Library:
When I started with my first concepts in the mid nineties, the whole project seemed to be megalomaniac .

Then the streaming technology appeared. This was the moment I said: that's it. In the beginning of our production process most experts thought they never will manage this. The amateurs said: wonderful.

Fact is, no sample-engine developer could foresee the Vienna Symphonic Library. Now we are here, we are talking with developers, and I think we are moving into the right direction.
Our library will grow and so will the features of the engines.

It's much easier for us now to talk with all the ingenious developers out there, because we've prooved that a project like the Vienna Symphonic Library is possible.

The First Edition matches with the available technologies, our betatesters have experienced this already. The further releases will use all possibilites of upcoming technologies of course. And we will collaborate on this development.

    best wishes
    Herb

  • Hi Herb,

Thanks for that info. I'd be happy to know of any developments and/or comments about your relationship with Emagic.

By the way, are you showing VSL at NAMM this January?

    Regards - Colin

  • Yes, we'll be there, and this time with our Symphonic Booth! (... errr ... provided no-one around LA is on strike again [8-)] )

  • Hi Colin,

Sorry for the delay, now i´ve found time to answer your quetion.
my name is chris and i´m responsible for the mapping of the Vienna Symphonic Library for the EXS24 mkII.
My experience is that the bootup time of Logic doesn´t slow down with the amount of instruments in the Sampler Instruments folder of the EXS, appart you have loaded some exs, full with sounds in your autoload song.
If this is so, logic certainly also loads all instruments in the exs when you boot up and that will take its time.
i hope that answers your questione.

    best, chris

  • Hi Nigel,

the handling of the Vienna Symphonic Library is very easy with the EXS also! The restriction of 4 folders is enough, because we have one more folder, the "sampler instruments folder". To have the best overview we have designed the front end for our users as easy as possible, that means, the structure of the instrument folders is nearly the same with every instrument, so you will be able to handle the whole library in a very short time. You´ll love it!

    All the best
    Chris

  • Hi Chris,

Thanks for the info. That sound pretty good!
I'm looking forward to trying the EXS24-native demo soon.....
