    I am a bit dissappointed with the VSL Bosendorfer piano. Fantastic samples, very real, but I don't like the functionality. When I play Rachmaninov's Prelude in C sharp minor the polyphony maxes out and it all sounds horribly wrong. I have the samples on a seperate hard disk and 4GB of memory - so why is this happening. I can have a whole symphony orchestra playing in Gigastudio - so I don't think it is the computer - more likely the Vienna Instruments interface.

    What does close mean? 5cm near the soundboard or microphoned from the lip of the piano? What does distant mean? 1m or 20m? Are there any photos of the recording.

    Is there anyway to use VSL within GS3? Or are there any plans to release a gig version of the Bosendorfer? As frankly Gigastudio is far far better than any other sampler I've used, including Vienna Instruments.

    The VI is 64-voice polyphony I believe.
    Probably not quite enough pedal up/down, extended runs on piano, harp etc.

    Can this be true? It seems unreasonably low for piano.
    When I play using my SampleTekk TBO library I can easily reach a polyphony of 100-120.

    yes - but I suppose the VI was developed for the cube - and for a orchestral
    instrument 64-voices is more than enough. Maybe we will see an update
    of this in the future?

    Sorted! Yep it is more than enough - just dicovered that if I use the standalone version I can play a glissando down the piano and a huge lot of chords at once. But problems came when I use Piano in VST instrument plugin. I was using the softwares built in sound driver as opposed to the hardware one. It still is not as good as standalone but better. I would like to see a capture to disk facility in the VI.

    you can change polyphony with "Ctrl+Alt+P" (PC), or "Apple+alt+P" on a Mac.
    This will tax your CPU more, but you won´t get any dropouts [:)]
    Simply enter the number of voices you´d like to have available (-1 is default. 160=160 voices).

    ?!? Is this a joke, or for real?

    Where do you type this? Can you do it with the VST or only standalone?

    AFAIK you should enter _only_ this multiples of 64:128, 192, 256

    Supprised to learn that you can up the polophony - Paul only mentions Mac -Can you do this on PC too?

    You must have missed the part where Paul said "you can change polyphony with 'Ctrl+Alt+P" (PC)'.

    Curious what the default of "-1" means.... I'd love to know...

    I guess it means the default 64 voice polyphony that the VI has - or isn't that what you mean?

    That's my guess too, but since you can also set polyphony to 64 voices, I am not absolutely certain.

    Hi,

    "-1" is simply the default setting, don´t let it confuse you (=64 voices). When you enter 128, 164 you get exactly that polyphony [:)]

    And you simply press the given key combination when the given Bösendorfer Vienna Instrument is selected.

    Has anyone succeeded with this? Does a window pop-up where you can type this stuff, or is it all "behind the scenes". When I hit CTRL-ALT-P nothing happens. I'm not using stand alone btw...

    Any details?

    Polyphony is fine. Make sure:

    1. You set the host program to use the soundcard driver as opposed to as opposed to Directx or software driver
    2. Make sure the buffer settings on the soundcard are correct.
    3. Use the polyphony Ctrl+Alt+P or apple equivalent.
