  • strings orchestra and string chamber trouble

I've upgraded my giga pro edition to the full VI library and have had no problems! That is until tonight when I tried to assign the "strings orchestra" into a cell. It said there was an error and that it could not locate my Bass Orchestra samples. I loaded other instruments did not have a problem. Tried rebooting, nothing. But I found that the same thing happened when I tried to assign the "strings chamber orchestra" into a cell. Error, can't find Bass Orchestra samples.
I checked my hard drive and noticed that each folder "strings orchestra" and "strings chamber orchestra" contian just 3 dat files each. I remember painstaikingly loading all the DVDs that came with the full package ~ so I'm sure everything was loaded.
Has anyone else had this problem?

  • I only had this problem when my PC ran out of available RAM. This was caused by not undoing the Giga memory tweaks.

  • The Basses Orchestra samples are on the VI Orchestral Strings II (along with the Cellos Orchestra). Look for the folders named '24 Basses Orchestra' on your hard drive: it should contain 17 dat files.

The 'Strings Chamber' patches don't use the Basses Orchestra samples, they use the 'Bassi Chamber' samples - these should be on your hard drive in a folder called '14 Bassi Chamber' containing 18 dat files.

If either of these folders are missing, your Strings Orchestra and Strings Chamber patches will lack their basses samples and therefore won't load properly.

  • The problem is solved. When I was having this problem I didn't have the "Basses Orchestra" loaded in the Directory Manager. I had only loaded the "Strings Orchestra" thinking that all of the samples were in that folder. Guess not! Now I know. The same case with the Chamber.

    Thanks for the replies, though!
