  • Legato transitions and thanks!

    Hi,

This is my first time posting here.
First of all I would like to thank Herb and the company for developing such a revolutionary product and for making no compromises in it's making.

I just made my first purchase - Solo Strings VI. Even though I have only scratched the surface of the library I must admit that it exceeded my expectations with it's flexibility and playability. It's so detailed that in a way I feel like I have to learn to play a new instrument in order to be comfortable with choosing articulations and with key switching on the fly.
But buy all means the instrument deserves it's learning curve.

I have a couple of questions, if I may,

Is it possible to connect legato patch to, for example, crescendo patch, using key switches? In other words to have the transition of the interval connected to a crescendo patch or other non legato patch with no audible interruption?

I think I might have read somewhere regarding this but don't seem to find the information.

Would anyone be so kind to direct me to the link or to describe the process?

Also, why would one use short notes instead of using short notes repetitions? Is it because the non repetition patch has more layers? If that's the case then why not make one patch out of those two, like 4 layer repetitions?

I will greatly appreciate your advise.

    Thank you.

  • Welcome Sasha,

good to hear that you like your new Instruments! [:)]

You will most certainly get more detailed information from our support-team after the weekend, but in the meantime you could watch our video-tutorials:

It's quite possible that some of your questions are already answered here (.... and in addition you could get input for new ideas, too).

    HTH & all the best,

  • The transition material of the legato is attached to the second note, not the first. So to be able to use this with a cresc/dim patch you would need to load the legato patch in one cell, the cresc/dim patch in the other, and then use cell xFade to cross fade to the cresc/dim patch once the transition had been heard.

  • Thanks for the tip, DG.

    It works well.

Another situation: if the destination note after the legato sample is too short I can make it longer by crossfading it to a lower cell with a long sample? Is this the proper way to do it?

It'd be nice to be able to insert the transition sample like legato, portamento, zigan e t.c. between any two non legato samples. But I guess it's not possible programming wise.

    Thanks again.

Yes, this is the best way to do it IMO. However, with solo instruments you have to do the xFade at just the right time, or else you will get phasing.
