Hello !
I wanted to share my impressions about VI SE
This my first VI, and globally, I find this is a terrific product !
The engine is really powerful .The ability to switch between the articulations ,the automated release samples, and to forget external sampler, what a relief ! .
Of course there is only the basic articulations, but for me the major improvement is the legato performance : nothing to compare with the opus horyzon : more fluid, more real and more depth with the 24bit resolution .
I noticed we can only take benefit of the very short loading time since we save customs data .This is a point to clarify ...
However, the trills hs & gs are clearly missed ( and I see I'm not the only one in that case ) , so I have to run all my projects with GS3 and opus ( I love trills !)
If there is an upgrade one day, please include trills ! [[;)]]

I can imagine that 24 bit samples makes a difference, but what do you mean when you say it's more fluid and real?
I was under the impression that the legato transition samples are the same as in Opus, only 24 bit in SE. Am I wrong or were you just referring to the bit depth? [*-)]

As pointed out several times already, almost the whole sample-base was completly re-edited for the Vienna Instruments.

This means: The actual _recordings_ are the same (as long as we don't talk about _new_ instruments, of course), but the _presentation_ of the samples themselves is very different: 24 bit, with lots of optimizations and special treatments for a dedicated player.

Thanks Dietz. I thought I'd ask since there was a forum thread some time ago about the fact that the violin legato patch in Opus is a sul legato patch despite the fact that some felt that the normal legato patch in pro edition would have been a more natural choice. I don't really know the details, but I will regard your answer as a confirmation then that for the overlapping articulations of SE and Opus the same legato samples are used (except for the difference in bit depth). Does anyone know if there is any difference in playability between SE and Opus? (eg. ability to vary legato transition speed)

Btw. with my question above I wasn't trying to question the fluidity of the legato transitions. The legato instruments in Opus and SE, I must assume, are indeed excellent. [:)]

Herb made the final selection for the Special Edition, so he will chime in here himself, eventually.
