  • I'll try this again

I stil need some help figuring out I'm doing wrong, or what is wrong, with the VI-20_staccato patch in the Appassionata strings. No matter what tempo or spacing of notes, just two samples alternate (not the four listed for the patch): one up bow, one down bow.

Either a) I don't understand under what conditions the complete alternations are triggered, or b) there is a problem with this patch in standalone VI on my Mac Pro 10.4.8., or c) I don't understand what quantity the numeral "4" represents!

I could use some help please, thanks.

P.S. I've looked at the waveforms carefully. One down bow sample. One up bow sample.

  • Isn't the 4 the number of velocity layers? (I've only just worken up so may be talking rubbish here)

  • Hi Johnny. I think what's happening is that the VI_20 staccato patch uses two alternations for its 'tight' staccatos and four for its 'loose' ones. (You can toggle between tight and loose by using the A/B switch.)

Each patch has three velocity layers and the alternation behaviour is the same in each of them.

  • Hi,

Conquer's right - there's two alternations for tight staccatos ... sorry the manual doesn't mention this, I simply overlooked it.

    Kind regards,

  • The Orch Strings I+II have great staccato patches that have at least 4 alternations I believe. They bite more than the AS strings as well.

Remember the AS collections is not a complete substitute for the OS I+II so the two together is where you find solutions and workarounds for various articulations.

  • Ah ha! I've been strictly on the tight samples.

Thank you, thank you one and all for replying and sorting this for me. Good way to start my day!
