  • OT: SyncroSoft HELP!

I just wanted to download my license from within SyncroSoft License Control, for VI Special Edition, and the license manager told me to download a newer version of LCC. I did that, installed it (Mac OS X) and now ALL MY LICENSE ARE GONE! Cubase, VSL, ElioSoft - gone. Tried to reboot. No change. Anyone knows if there is a way to fix this? This is totally unacceptable from a "professional" company like SyncoSoft to release software that can potentially ruin your workstation.

I know this is NOT VSL's fault in any way, but I just wonder if anyone in here knows how to fix it. And maybe warn people that this could happen to others too. I wrote SyncroSoft, but their lame support form doesn't give me any indication that I will get support from them anytime soon, if ever.

  • If I remember right, somebody had similiar problems in the past and could fix it simply plugin the key into a different USB slot of his computer.
Don't know if this is helpful in your case, but it's worth a try.

I'm no OSX expert, on windows XP it's possible to deinstall the USB hardware on a certain USB slot and reinstalling the next time you plugin the key.
Maybe this works similiar on OSX?

  • this is most likely a UNIX-*feature* - running processes are kept in RAM (sometimes it seems data is even kept in RAM if the process has already ended). if you now change the underlying files this might severely screw up everything - a few users had actually to uninstall everything and start from scratch.
therefore i strictly recommend to reboot _before_ and _after_ doing something with licenses or upgrading a related application (basically when updating _any_ application)

  • Thanks for your suggestions Herb. I tried moving the device to another port, same thing. Also, after updating the LCC, the "initializing" process at startup, takes much longer than it used to. And to my knowledge there is no way to uninstall the driver for such an USB device.

  • cm, thanks, but if that was the case, shouldn't LCC installer be aware of that and demand a reboot...

Now, I can't even download and install licenses anymore. I get an error message.

  • I tried plugging the USB into my PC with an older version of LCC. Here, all licenses are still intact.

CM, you are right about screwing up. Spotlight index doesn't work anymore, even after I reindex, I can't use spotlight. I wonder what else it f*cked up [:@] Now I will try some cleaning up and maintenance stuff and see if I can get it back working, if not I have to do a complete OS X reinstall. Awesome.

  • simon, i was referring to an uninstall of LCC and possibly VI ... not the complete system ... spotlight no longer working is new to me ....

it would be very mac-unlike to force a reboot before an install (actually after an install mostly too), but new times need new methods here and there ...

i suggested to program a *process-killer and memory cleaner* tool some time ago, but there might be some drawbacks for such a thing i cannot rate ...

  • Cleaning up all system caches got Spotlight running again.

It seems to me the new SyncroSoft LCC is broken. I tried transfering all licenses to another dongle I had on the PC, and this one doesn't even turn up on the Mac. No protection devices found. I will try removing and installing an older LCC and see if that works.

EDIT: You can't install an older version of LCC than the one has previously been installed. So I guess I am stuck here, until a new version of LCC comes out that will hopefully make it work again [8-)]

simon, the really bad thing is, that there is no built-in uninstaller in OS X, although a series of them are floating around the net, eg. here - no clue how reliable they are in fact ....

here is a step-by-step guidance maya posted:

    >> 1. First of all please restart your computer
    >>
    >> 2. Then please find and erase the following receipts from your

    >> 5. Open LCC to see if your Solo Strings License shows up properly.

basically all uninstallers are working also related to receipts.

edit: replace step 3 with the latest download http://syncrosoft.com/downloads

  • cm, thanks. I almost thought that was gonna work. It let me re-install an older version of LCC (the one on the Vienna installer CD), but my licenses are still all gone. Also tried re-installing the latest version, same thing. I will call SyncroSoft and ask them for a solution.

  • I got in contact with SyncroSoft. They mailed me a link to an older version (5.0.8.4) which works with all my existing licenses. I just can't download a license for VI Special Edition, and if I use a newer version of LCC, no licenses show up at all. So I guess for now I can only wait for SyncroSoft to come out with a new version that fixes this.
