  • VI Distortion Problem - Logic 7.1.1

    Hi all -

I'm having a problem with my recently purchased VSL Special Edition while using it in Logic. The hosted stand-alone player distorts the AU samples every time I try to use it. I'm certain its not a question of levels, i'm pretty sure my comp can handle the software (G5 i mac w/ 2gig ram, very fast external hd, Presonus Firepod audio interface used as midi router) since the distortion (pops and clicks) occur even when I load very simple patches that require very little processing power. I am using Logic 7.1.1 - however... Has anyone else had this problem with VSL? Does anyone know if upgrading to Logic 7.3 will fix the problem? I'm going to post this on the Logic forum as well just in case they can help...

PS sorry if this question is redundant - i tried to find a solution before posting.

  • If you haven't done it already, you might try increasing Logic's I/O buffer size. Logic/Preferences/Audio/Drivers)

To avoid clicks and pops I keep the Logic's I/O buffer set to 512k or 1024k. Clicks and pops often occur when one first starts playing a VI instrument but then disappear and do not recur.

  • Even with the I/O buffer set to 1024 I still have this problem. Is this really an issue of insufficient RAM or processing power?

  • i remember some posts pointing out logic 7.2.x fixed some AU issues .. this might be related ...

ps: IIRC this applies to intel macs ...

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
