  • In which folder do I install Appassionata Strings?

    Hello,

I am in the process of installing Appassionata Strings on my G5.
The installer tells me that they will be placed in the Chamber Strings and then in the Cello Folder. I don't think I want them there. It seems logical that the violins go to the chamber or orchestral violins, the violas idem etc.
Or is this not the right way? I cannot see on the dvd what the content is, except that it contains a number of files with appassionata strings label.
Or is this all installed automatically in the right folders?

    Greetings,

    Gerard

  • Hello Gerard,

you can choose the destination folder in the installation process. It´s probably nice to have them on the same level as your other collections, for a good overview [:)]

  • I'm resurrecting the thread because I don't understand the answer. What does the 'same level' mean? That he should put the Appassionata violins with the existing violins and so on, or create a new folder?

I'm installing SE now and I there doesn't seem to be any advice about what the destination should be. I've no existing VSL folders. If it simply doesn't matter how I arrange the folders it would be helpful to be told that. I'm wondering whether I should install all the sections into one single folder or into the folders that the pre-install information was downloaded to, for strings, winds, etc.

    Any advice much appreciated, thanks!

  • ...I've just found out that it does matter because I selected the pre-install download folder for Strings, then chose erase download data because it said the content wouldn't be affected. Then the whole folder was erased and I'm having to download again.

It seems strange to make very good videos on how to install that end halfway through the install process. Maybe you could include this info somewhere - FAQ? Or am I just daft? Possibly.

  • Hello zenith,

This has indeed happened once before. I simply have not thought of the option that you could extract the sample content from the download files into the same folder that contains the compressed download files.

I will add this information with the next revision of the videos.

    Best,

  • Hi Paul,

Thanks for the speedy reply!  I think the question here is how would _you_ arrange the folders on a new or additional instal.  Does it not matter to the software?

That otherwise excellent instructional manuals and video seem to leave out this advice.

    Thanks

    Hi,

I would simply make a folder called "VSL" or "Vienna Instruments" or similar, best on a fast separate hard-drive, and install all sample content into this folder. I guess everybody organizes their data in a different way.

You can also change the location of your sample content - simply update the Directory Manager. Here is a video on "How to use the Directory Manager".

    Best regards,

    Paul
