  • PC Spec Upgrade Query

    Hi all,

I have just taken the plunge and decided to upgrade to the Special Edition and Extended versions.

My current PC spec is as follows:

    Intel P4 2.8GHz
    2Gb RAM
    2 x 160 Gb IDE hard drives
    RME HDSP 9652

    Software:

    Sibelius 4.1
    Cubase SX 3
    Gigastudio 3
    Opus 1&2
    BFD

I use the ADAT on the 9652 to an alesis HD24so I can breakout onto a mackie 24.8

I know the above spec is really limiting to achieve full orchestral results since when using Gigastudio over 1Gb RAM was used up just on a string section.

What I would like to know is.

Is it worth upgrading this box and if so to what? I'm thinking Intel dual core Intel2 Core duo, the 2 x dual core if that's how it is named is really too expensive. Has anyone noticed problems when using AMD processors as they are significantly cheaper?

    or

Would I be better off leaving this box alone and building a new machine for for SE and gigastudio?

If I build another box how would I link the 2 together for both midi and audio?

Also is there anyone in the North London area that does offer training for Vienna and production techniques as I am a complete novice when it comes to getting the results that I want since I am purely self taught?

    many thanks
