  • VI/Special Edition question

Hi, This is my first VI library and I am still just discovering and learning VI functionnality. So, I just wanted to check two things :
First, I see that the SE comes only with one (global) preset by instrument. Is that normal ?
Second, I had the impression that one great thing about the VI was that it was able to detect note's length. I mean particulary when playing live on the Keyboard, so that I would have been able to switch, for exemple, between staccato, detache, substain and legato without using any keyswitch or controler but just by the way I play on the Keyboard.
I don't see why this would not be possible. Do I am missing something here ?
By the mean time, I already created a legato appassionsta patch by using the leg/porta of chamber strings. The potential and ease of use of the VI seems to be really great !

Forgot something else : in the Monitor Activity window there is always the vsldaemon in red indicating "no responding". If I kill the porcess, it doensot seems to affect VI functionality in Logic. Is that normal also ?

  • the vsldaemon is reported as *not responding* because it does not interact with the GUI (*does nothing* so to speak), however it is needed for the vienna instruments, even if you didn't notice it in a certain situation.

the aequivalent in windows are processes which are sitting in the taskmanager's process list consuming 0 sec CPU time actually after days of uptime.

btw: killing processes is never a good idea except you know exactly what you're doing .... neither on windows nor on a mac.

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Thanks Christain,

In fact, I just had Logic freezed after killing this process and using VI.
At least on XP, proccess like this don't show as "not responding".
