  • Running VIs from external drive

I am currently running some of my VIs from a second computer via network. I am wondering if they will run properly from a fast external drive like a FIrewire 400 or USB 2.0. If anyone is using an external drive to access VIs, please let me know what your experience has been.

    Thanks,
    Mike

  • USB 2.0 is not advised due to inconsistent data transfer rates.

FW is better, and eSATA is even better especially if you are using any other firewire devices concurrently such as an audio interface.

JWL - if I am not currently using any FW devices, is there much difference between FW and eSATA? I'd really like to run the majority of VIs off an external drive so it is critical to get the best option.

    THanks,
