  • Building PC Please Advise

I am gradually aquiring more Vienna Instruments and just added WW's II (I have to WW's I, Brass I, Orch Strings I+II and Appassionata Strings) So I need another PC for streamng etc. So I have three basic questions about my wish list below (please volunteer any observations unrelated to my quetions as well):

    1. Does everything look compatable?
    2. Does it look like overkill?
    3. Am I missing anything?

    Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor
ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard
    COOLMAX CUG-700B ATX 12V( V.2.2) 700W Power Supply 115/230 V
    CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit - (4 gigs total)
Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600JS 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - Program Drive
2 Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS (Perpendicular Recording Technology) 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drives- Streaming Drives
ZALMAN CNPS9500 LED 92mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan with Heatsink
    ASUS Black 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM SATA DVD-ROM
    SAPPHIRE 100142L Radeon X1300 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card

looks like a solid systen (don't know if WiFi makes any sense ...), though this one looks incompatible - i'd rather take a red one [;)]
    christian

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • You're right cm I am not going to go with Wifi and am looking at:

ASUS P5B-E LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard. I have to find the right ram though.

  • Maybe a little bit overkill [:D]
I have used a E6300 for my new fx teleport machine. Also you don't need a full blown mobo - a micro atx with vga will do nicely - its cheaper and you save the video card. I have used an Asus P5B-VM DO with the new Q965
    chipset.

It all seems to be behaving nicely - BUT I do have a small problem with
the loading limits - so far I have only managed to load about 2 gb into
    VSL ( this on a 4 gb machine with /3GB switch ).
This could be a motherboard problem ( although its more likely not to be )

  • I will look into that mother board but I was thinking I may not be vga forever.

I hope I can load 2.8 gigs - that's why I'm getting this. Otherwise Mac Mini would be fine and a LOT cheaper. Please let me know if you get that working.

I run dvi on my main DAW - and vga on the new slave and works fine with
    remote desktop.

As I wrote in your other thread: No worries about the load limit I'm now
loading up to 43000 samples on the slave

  • Only one screen here - Windows xp remote client works perfectly for me running
    4 computers.
For vst wrappers and streaming I use fx-teleport

  • Bjorne,

Glad you have that working! I am using a Belkin PS2 switcher which works okay but 4 is the limit and it will now be full. My next cpu may be the new Mac 8's (if that's what's next.)

    Tanuj,

Wow that's pretty good performance. My Dual 2.7 G5 barely handles 1 Altiverb! I am going to move all my Strings (Orch I+II and Appassionata) to the new machine because they cause the most performance problems. WW's II will go on P4 3.4 ghz.

    Thanks guys!
