  • 3.5 gigs of VSI running on a PC in 64bit--Finally!

I'm a bit excited and this may be premature, but I've been testing a setup to try to squeeze the most out of a pc and get around the RAM limitations we are all still bogged down with.

I have been able to successfully load 3.5 GB of VSI on my comp using WinXP x64 and Cakewalk 64bit. The 32 bit VSI is able to run using the bitbridge program built into cakewalk. At first I couldn't get bitbridge to load more than 2GB, but saw a post on the northern sounds forum where someone had used LaaTiDo to make bitbridge LAA. I tried it and viola!

I am using an AMD 3500+ Athlon 64 processor and it's hardly blinking. Even when I load Altiverb, the resources used are minimal.

This is very exciting for me as I am able to finally access the full amount of RAM for my comp. I'd like to take it to the next step and try with a server board running 8 or 16 GB of RAM.

Has anyone tried this? just curious.

We might be getting close to cutting down on the number of computers needed to keep a full orchestral template up and ready to play.

Any insight or experience in this area would be welcome! I'll try to get more info and some screen shots up soon.

  • Sounds nice.
I run Sonar myself and are looking to go 64 bit. I've just been a bit
reluctant because of the 64-bit driver situation.
    What soundcard are you using?

How did you go about actually installing the VSL - as a 32-bit program
will it just install in a 64-bit environment?

  • I'm using a MOTU 2408 with PCI 424 card as my sound card. As far as installing VSI, you just do it as normal. WinXP x64 will run 32 bit apps as well as 64 bit ones.

  • well - what I'm I waiting for then [[:|]] [:D]
