    Hi Jaimo,

your "Vienna Instruments Cudtom Data" folder is to be found in your user folder.

Please download the latest Syncrosoft License Control Center here.

New updates always need the latest versions.

Let´s see if that helps with the Custom Data Folder, too [:)]

    Best,

    Paul

  • Thanks so much for the reply Paul.

So I was right in remembering that the syncro soft key had a version 5 update! I know for a fact I installed that version a few weeks ago. Obviously, that OS install I did really did a number on some aspects of my system.

Anyhow, I've got that latest syncrosoft update installed now, but when I open the Vienna VI in stand alone, it is still looking for that custom folder.

I found the Vienna Instruments Custom Data folder in my user folder, where you said it would be, however, it is completely empty! I don't even want to know how that happened...

How can I get that back? What specifically needs to be re-installed?

  • Hi Jaimo,

are you working with multiple accounts? Maybe you have another Custom Data Folder on another account?

    Best,

    Paul

  • No other accounts Paul. just the one...

I went and checked my "Previous System Folder" from when I did the archive and install OS re-instaallation, and it's empty there as well...

Another thing... even though I just today did the 1.11 update, the component in my Audio Units component folder says version 1. is that right?

  • Hey Jaimo:

Whenever I've changed anything with the Directory Manager I have to shut the computer down completely and reboot before the changes take effect. This advice came from the VSL team as a suggestion for dumping stubborn UNIX code file references. Repairing permissions might also help reconnect any other file associations and directories.

  • Thanks JWL. But I do know that it's best to shut down, before re-trying, which I did, and I have repaired permissions twice, as well, Once after the 1.11 update installed, and once after the syncrosoft update was installed.

And a wise fellow you are, then!

That was the end-all workaround I've always used, but if it's not working for 1.11 I think I'll wait to do the update until we can better understand what the solution might be.

  • Hi Jaimo,

I went back to previous versions of the VI and reinstalled V 1.1... no changes at all in the Custom Data Folder - all presets are still here.

We have tested V 1.1. on all kinds of OS, every test went fine.

The easiest way to check the version number of the Vienna Instruments is to look at the "Preset Select" Page on the left hand side.

So just to make sure I understand it right: You can´t find your presets anymore, correct? Can you start the VI in your sequencer and standalone by now?

    Thanks for the update,

    Paul

  • That's just it Paul. At this point, since updating to 1.11 this afternoon, I can no longer open the stand alone or the AU in Logic.

In both instances, I get the "Custom Data Folder Is Inaccessible-Please Use Directory manager to Specify a new custom Data Folder" message.

  • Please try the following: Delete the "Vienna Instruments Custom Data" Folder, and create a new one at the same place with the same name. Let´s see what happens.

    Thanks for your patience!

  • O.K. we're making progress...

I deleted the folder, and created a new one with the same name. Now, I can open up the VI in Logic and in Stand Alone.

But the presets, Matrixes, and Patches are all empty...

BTW, I can confirm looking at the left side of the VI (now that I can get it to open) that 1.11 is indeed installed...

So, how do I get the presets, Matrixes and patches to show up again! And thank you for hanging in there with me!

open directory manager, open finder, arrange both windows, browse in finder to data folders, drag&drop folders containing VI data on the directory manager window (adds all in one run) - reboot. see directory manager video tutorial for details.
now everything should be in place again

  • Thank you CM! That did it!

And thank you for supplying the link to that tutorial. I have watched that before, but this time around, I noticed the recommendation to drag and drop the folder(s) containing the samples, as opposed to using the browse function, which is what I had done every-time prior to this.

I'm quite sure my recent OS re-install, and all the trials and tribulations that came with that contributed to the problems I was having, I just didn't know how to get things back. Thanks again to all of you.

  • what can be overlooked easily is, that addin data paths using the *add* button does not scan in possibly contained subfolders ... so drag&drop is the safe (and more comfortable) way to go.

That was exactly what was happening then. I had always used the "Add" button to select the top level folder I have my Vienna Instruments in, which of course, have all the library specific folders as sub-folders within it. That certainly explains why the Vienna VI couldn't see any content then.

    Thanks again!
