  • solo strings upgrade path

Is there an upgrade path from 1st Edition and solo strings to Pro Edition? I have the 1st Edition and would like to get the solo strings now but wonder if I have to wait until owning the Pro Edition to get any credit for the violin/cello duplication.

  • Ive considered the same.. as an Opus owner.. im considering maybe getting solo strings... and then later upgrading to Pro

  • I wanna know too. 7 weeks ago I wrote this:

"I have the First Edition (Complete orchestral package) and will probably
buy the solostrings. My question is: If I´m gonna upgrade to the PRO Edition
later, do I have to pay for the soloviolin and
the solocello once again or do I get a "custom" VIP price for the PRO Edition?
I don´t wanna pay for the solo violin/cello twice."

The answer I got was this:

"bengt, imo this is a valid point - kind of reverse upgrade - i've already forwarded this question
    christian"

I will soon recive my solostrings and I still have the First Edition so...
    is this a valid point?

    Thanks,
    Bengt Nilsson

  • Well.. the philosophy is that with VSL you dont have to pay for the same sample twice... which I would if I bought Solo Strings, and later Pro edition... thats why I ask...

However I understand if thats not how things work... it would just get me hooked on buying solo strings faster

  • I had inquired about this about a month ago. I thought the answer I received was pretty fair...

Right now they provide an upgrade price for the full Pro Ed. to the solo strings. I had inquired about including an upgrade for Pro. Strings plus Pro. Performance. They said that they will honor that path.

I'm thinking the same would not be true of just he Pro. Ed. strings, as this wouldn't include the legato or detache samples of the violin and cello.

I donno. It seemed fair to me.

yeah right. get them to say that definitively. This quote has caused heated discussion in some other threads, as you may remember. I tihnk the end result of which was something to the tune of:

"Whatever we decide is teh way it is. Even if there are duplicate samples, we can't honor that policy all the time."

This attitude was in repeated response to having an VIP price to purcahse OPUS 1 from FIRST EDITION. VSL's answer seems to have been to try to placate us by giving us a FREE DVD UPDATE. It's nice, but there are still some desireables on the OPUS 1 for 1st ED owners to have, and at such a better price than the PRO Ed.

  • As I said.. I understand fully that what they do, is what they do.. its their company.

And no.. I dont recall that debate... It became ridiculous name calling pretty fast.

  • I am not sure I understand all of this upgrade kafuffle. I appreciate the fact this is an exciting library and that we are excited by the new products, but make no mistake about it, the philosophy is clear. If there are exceptions or variants to the ‘upgrade path’ it is not due to mal-intent or the like, rather it is the result of a very simple fact: we do not live on this planet alone and, by way of accommodating more individuals, we must accept the fact that a certain patience is necessary in order to achieve collective goals. If you sell music, leave the house, buy milk, vote, drive, buy toilet paper, then you are in the collective and as such, you wait.

To be clear, if the VSL team were to make the library for one person the cost would be enormous, of course I would buy it. Nevertheless and notwithstanding, Opus 1 is a perfect library for those who do not wish to spend the money on the FE or PE library for whatever reason; it is not an act against FE or PE users. Moreover, the individual strings, saxophones, guitar(s) and so on, are an answer – a collective answer - to a large number of people asking – in some cases pleading – to have access to this library. And yes there are some things that may be unfortunate in regard to a specific upgrade path or deal, however, this does not negate the philosophy of the VSL.

For instance, I got the FE and then as soon as it came out I got the PE and then as soon as it came out I got Glass and Stones. Then, a little while later there was a deal to get the PE and with it, to get the Glass and Stones for free. That’s life; nothing is against me here. But more importantly, even if I didn’t get the deal, I benefit from a company that has a larger client base in that they will be able to develop and go forward with there grand plan – I am excited about the world instruments, choirs, baroque instruments and so on. And it seems to me that this company, more so then many, is specifically interested in developing something excellent.

Obviously I do not know the full details of the symphonic cube, which will be on a malleable format and will help provide an even more specific level of attention to the client; but, as an impassioned user of the VSL I long for the early days on this forum when I felt inspired by the people who participated. More and more it feels like these forums are filled with trite, insignificant and/or largely reactionary thoughts.

The fact is, the VSL library has provided us with compositional opportunities; I am talking about studying composition, hearing the colors of the orchestra whenever you want, and fulfilling one’s musical desire.

    Yours,
    Jordan
