  • Performance Tool Issue

    Hi all,

I've a problem getting my performance tool to work. I receive two types of error messages and I'd like to know what they indicate exactly.

The first reads: Error on Output

The second states: Visual C++ Runtime error.

If I can't get this solved, I won't be able to use the Performance Set properly. [:'(]

    Please help if you can,

    Natalie.

  • what was the visual c++ runtime error? That is probably the single most useful thing you can post because the developers can track down the bug relatively easily.

Let me know what the error is and I'll see if I can help you at all. Since I don't have the code I may not be able to help much, but some bugs have to do with missing or unregistered libraries and are not very codebase specific.

  • Hi there Blue Dane,

The visual c++ error mentions something along the lines of the runtime library being requested to terminate the program (Performance Tool) in an unusual way. If you need to know the exact wording of the error message, I can make a note the next time it presents itself and post this.

I believe everything is functioning but that the errors and my inability to make the performance tool work are due to the midi routing. It's only when I change the midi-in and midi-outs ports of either the Performance Tool, my sequencer, or Giga, that the errors occur.

  • if you boot up your computer with an arbitrary midi i/o configuration does it run until you change it? Or does it only run with one specific configuration? And if you run it with one configuration, shut the performance too down completely, change the configuration, and then start it again, does it run then? Or does that change cause it to crash? So, another way to say that is: Does changing the config while its running cause the crash or changing it at all after boot up?

I'm really fishing here - I don't have VSL yet (SOON! SOON!) nor, obviously do I have to code to the performance tool. But if you found a workaround (it sounds like it since you figured out a crash symptom?) then more power to you. If you have any more specifics or if you happen to have pencil and paper around next time you get the bug, post it up and I'll do what I can (which is limited, i'll admit.)

good luck! I wish I could be more help but I'll do what I can.

p.s. Are you using any "non-standard" things like virtual midi/audio cables, etc? If you are (or if you're not, as a test) see if you can use different midi devices to route your signal around. It might be that what you're seeing is a bug in the virtual midi driver code, for instance. For instance, if you're using midiyoke or something, maybe it doesn't like being disconnected, but it's the performace tool that's taking the blame.
(Midiyoke in my experience has not been that hot. i think that there are better alternatives.)

  • note4note, if you see this error again please get the detailed wording of the message (there are so much similar ones ...) and send us a description of your machine, operating system and which applications are running (including midi-settings, ect) - also screenshots are welcome.
eg. i know there are strange things happening with W98 (first edition) without any updates installed.
since my email is public, feel free to contact me this way (so i can hold better track on it) - everything i cannot solve by myself i'll forward to the developers to analyze

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Hello,

Thanks for your help all. I've noted the exact error I receive from the Performance Tool, which may be useful to the developers should this prove to be a bug.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Runtime Error!

    Program: D:\Program Files\VSL Performance Tool\Performance Tool.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
