  • Roman,

Thanks for the info! I still haven't imported anything from VSL with the new version, but this is very promising! I look forward to create the multi-dynamic performance-legatos myself.

  • Great news Roman,
as soon as I can affort it, I will take a closer look to Kontakt.
(I'm also still waiting for "FX-Freeze" - with this little plugIn it's possible to freeze/unfreeze VST-Instruments within every VST supporting Seq. (which gives you back all the CPU-Power and used RAM) - it's the same like the Logic 6 freeze - but for the Rest of the world [;)] check out www.fxfreeze.com for infos)

    Greetings

  • Yes, Sebastian,

you are perfectly right, but FXF does more than Logic is able to do yet: it optionally frees up the RAM! Now it is virtually possible to realize the whole VSL-orchestra within a single machine, if you are willing to wait for loading/unloading the samples when freezing/unfreezing from time to time. I can't give you too much details, cause I am under NDA, But I can tell you: this thing WORKS GREAT.

  • Another thumbs up for FXFreeze here [[:)]]

    and FXTeleport

and his future products [[:)]] (which I'm very excited about, current VSL owners should be as well, thats all I have to say about that)

  • I have to add, that Kontakt still does not support more than 1 condition for triggering a group, why some VSL-patches, that e.g. use the wheel AND keyswitches won't import correctly. It is no real problem though, if you import the basic versions rather than combinations and build patches yourself. It a bit time consuming, but it is worth the investment. Btw. Stacc 1+2 and/or 0.3/0.5 1+2-combinations import well, since they don't use any other controller besides keyswitches.

  • Hi Roman,
    thanks again for the advice.
(You allready have a copy of FxFreeze ? - writing for a magazin opens doors, he ? [;)] )
Btw. (offtopic): Where in Hessen do you live ? Maybe you're living more or less next to me, and I don't know this [;)]
    Best wishes,
    Sebastian

  • Hi Sebastian,

I live near Kassel on the countryside: horses, chicken and a lonely secret lab with myriads of transistors silently struggling with my ideas [;)].

I simply asked Max (the FXF programmer), to get on the Beta-List for his products. I don't know, if the magazine-stuff I am writing (btw. for absolutely ridiculous money...) was the reason he let me in. But in fact yesterday one of the two leading german computer-magazines called me to write about Max stuff. I hope they pay better [:)].

  • Hi Roman,
well, I'm living near Marburg - so the distance is not that big, eh ? [;)]
(Well, at the moment I would prefer to live next to vienna...... [:)] )
Ok - FxT is allready out, I suppose FxF will be available in the next few days.
    Best wishes,
    ST

  • This is probably a question for the Kontakt forum but those who have experience with this sampler may be able to help.

Is there a way to use different banks instead of just different channels? Like Strings may be on Channel 1 but 1st Violins are Chan 1, Bank 0 and 2cd Violins on Chan 1, Bank 1 etc.?

P.S. I am using Sonar as the MIDI\Seq engine. Thanks for the awesome samples. Truely the best around.

  • Hi everyone,

I'd like to buy Performance Set but I have a PC with Logic 5.5 & I read that Giga won't work with Windows XP unless I have GSIF compatible sound card.

Should I buy Kontakt and will it mean I can use the Giga performance tool? Lastly, will Kontakt sampler work with Logic 5.5 as my sequencer?

    Thanks for any help!

    Natalie.

Unfortunately, Natalie, you have only partial information.

    1. Under Windows 98SE, ME, 2000 and XP, to run GigaStudio, you must have an audio card with GSIF drivers. You can use Direct Sound, but GSIF is much better.

    2. Kontakt 1.2.1 does work in Logic 5.5 as a sequencer, and also imports a majority of the VSL library.

    3. It's not a Giga Performance tool. It's simply a Performance Tool, and according to several beta testers on the VSL forum, they've been able to get the Performance tool to work with VSL imported into Kontakt.

  • slight correction,

In XP you cannot use Direct Sound Drivers. Only GSIF compatable.

  • Thanks for the correction.
