  • hi strawinsky,
get the taskmanager on your desktop (rightclick somwhere in the taskbar and select taskmanger, select processes, select choose columns, select show virtual memory) - look for the process msg32.exe and see how much memory is assigned
make sure you have service-pack 1 installed (rightclick my computer, properties and look at your windows-version) - if not use windows-update
if you have a somhow good configured system you should be able to use about 850 MB from your physical 1 GB, probably more
forget the 512 MB - this applies to W98 whithout tweaking
just to add: using EXS curently you can go above 1GB, but you are still limited with 2GB

  • Brilliant, "cm".Many thanks.RAM is going to become a big issue for "power users"in the future. It's falling behind in relation to processor speed/application demands. But I predict big changes afoot, and would reasonably expect future computers to have RAM as big as 20 gig or more. The new MACs coming out in the Summer will have 4 gigahertz IBM processors in them ,so a friend of an insider told me.I would expect to see 4 gig of RAM in them.Once again, thanks for the advice. • Hi,Christian.I've managed to get up the Task Manager and follow your instructions successfully:I have Service Pack 1 installed. However,it's not clear from thereon in how I can allocate,or see,how much memory is assigned to Giga Studio.Msg32.exe,whatever that is (bearing in mind that I know practically nothing about the mysteries of Windows)is showing 1,688K memory usage and 608K for virtual memory. What does it all mean in terms of Giga Studio, and how do I assign/change memory allocation, please? • oops, i forgot to mention - there are several tabs - one is labeld processes

  • Sorry,Christian,I'm afraid you're going to have to treat me like the complete imbecile that I am on this one.Can you please describe to me exactly the procedure required to increase the memory to the Gigastudio.Macs are an awful lot simpler to do this on,gotta say. Many thanks thus far.... • Igor,
To get the maximum out of GigaStudio, Ram-wise, under XP: install 2 Gb. Most Giga users agree that using GigaStudio on a Windows 98 with 1 Gb is actually a lot more efficient and cheaper.
Windows XP just keeps on grabbing part of any additional memory you throw at it, whereas Windows 98 is happy with some rather fixed amount of 80-100 Mb for itself.

  • Peter,

    2Gb??

I was under the impression that Giga was unstable with a system using more than 1Gb...
Should I be ordering some more RAM? (XP Pro, 1Gb)

    Peter

  • Yes, I would. Personally, I put as much RAM on any given machine as it will hold. The more room you give XP to operate, to a degree, the more room it will leave for GigaStudio. I am having good luck with 1.5 GB.

  • hi all

i have 2 Gig of ramin my PC, so far, i can only managed to use 57% of it, as shown in gigastudio. i m using XP 2.53 pentium 4.

    just for the curious minds.

  • I have 2 gig in a P4 2.4 gHz, XP and have the exact same problem. The percentage counter reads only 56% when I'm using 700mb for Giga. It worked fine with 1.5 gigs so must be a Ram issue.
