  • Release performance samples for strings

Probably the biggest giveaway with strings that they're samples is when those samples stop playing.Even nowadays, with super authentic libraries,it's the end of the sample that lets it down.String players stop playing at different times that gives the end of the note that wonderful organic "exhalation".Not so with samples:they just stop dead, cutting off in a brutal, unattractive and unrealistic fashion.Note beginnings are not so bad, since you hear all the players lean in at different times, and you have to hear that part of the sample, otherwise there'd be no articulation to the sound.Would it be possible for Herb and the team to impliment a release performance(introduced by release velocity or mod wheel, etc),so that the end of each note would cease in that realistic, ensemble fashion? • Someone else correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the long sustains already have release sample versions. The only place where release samples are sorely missing is with the legato patches, and that is due to a limitation with the number of dimensions per instruement in gigastudio. While browsing through VSL, I though I saw a patch that was nothing but the release samples for an instrument. Seems like if one could figure out a way to trigger these from the note-offs of a sequencer track using the legato instruments, then that might work. Haven't tried it yet though.

  • Right, we offered the Release Samples as individual instruments, so you have the option to use them on a dedicated release sample miditrack.

    For example:
At the moment, the dynamic samples are not mapped with release samples. Here you have the option to use only a part of the dynamic sample and than add manually the release sample on a second track. In this case the velocity of the release sample has to be adjusted depending how long you are holding the dynamic sample.

We are just working out a release performance tool, where you will have the option to controll the velocity of the release sample via controller in realtime.

The database of the legato performances already includes release samples. The Pro Edition performance legato tool will offer this feature.
All users, who won't upgrade will of course get this update of the performance tool and artfiles for the gigfiles.

    best wishes

  • Perfect [:D]

  • Will the Pro edition have sustain strings, woodwinds, ... with release trigger ?

  • All sustains already have release trigger versions. also tremolos, trills, and medium long notes.

  • The message was about the Performance Set. Will the PS have looped sustain for strings, ww, ... with release trigger [:)]
