  • high price and limitations : VSTi vs GIGA

About vsl, i've been listening to demos, looking for infos, comments, reviews on many websites, magazines, users forums, for months now. As soon as i heard about vsl, i thought i would buy it. But i've balanced the pros and cons : Although i am very enthousiastic about the work done by the vsl crew, the price is high for someone like me (who intend to use it as a personal home-studio feature). Besides this expensive price, i'd have to face this big dilemma : i would purchase a product that was not designed for the pc music-oriented protocol : vst-i. Considering the fact that e-magic stopped developping logic for pc platforms, cubase remains the only serious alternative for sequencing with a pc.
In other words, i'm ready to pay the price for vsl quality, but i think the product should provide a vsti integration patch. When you spend this money for a sample package, no matter the quality, i think it's not purchaser's role to spend one or two weeks converting vsl library to halion format.
Therefor, i'm not gonna buy vsl now - and i'm sure i'm not the only one with the same concerns. I'll wait untill vsl crew find a better solution for vst-i users.
Considering the amount of cubase users (and the amount of giga users), i wonder why the vsl team hasnt find yet a satisfying compromise for vsl purchasers on this issue.

  • hello ludovic llorca!

I can see your point. For you this is a problem. Since you use halion I mean. I don't have either halion or gigastudio(yet) and have nothing to be concerned of. But I ALMOST but halion the other day(at that time I didn't know that vsl was designed for EX and GS) So I bought gigastudio. I can understand why HALion user's want what you just said....

Maybe it's because it takes some time, I don't know. But it is a little problem for HALion people.

  • Have you looked at this tutorial? http://www.timkiel.com/music/tutorials/t4-vsl_beginners.htm

I know not if it is working, but I see not why it shouldn't [[;)]]

  • Hi,

There is a VSTi adapter for Giga coming out real soon. There is already a working beta, and it will be realeased sooner than you can say "could you please release a VSTi version of giga, please?". Well, try and say it real slow so it takes a couple of months or so. Or you could try saying it lots of times in a row. If you want, you can say it backwards, or rearange the letters to say something different altogether. Why am I saying this? No idea.

What you need is giga itself, and the Giga-to-VSTi adapter.

Then you can run VSL within cubase no problem at all.
