  • While I obvilously can neither give a defintive answer nor a planned schedule, rest assured that we consider _every_ usefull platform for our Library.

The Kontakt is one impressing piece of software (in fact, several of my colleagues switched their sampler once they saw me using it during an extensive testing phase). While testing, it still missed disk-streaming (which should be ready now), and there are several other small issues which have to be sorted out before we can do a release for the Kontakt.

One little problem remains - NI seems to be in close contact with another sample-manufacturer now, and we have to wait and see how this relationship developes before we put our efforts into this platform. Maybe there are some news to tell after the NAMM.

  • Actually, at this time, don't they have a relationship with both Eastwest and Zero G? I don't think they're trying to be exclusive, and I'd be willing to bet they would be thrilled to have you aboard, also. Everything I see about NI gives me the impression that they're eager to please.

I don't know what it costs the sample producer to bundle the NI playback software with their library, but I would expect the cost is reasonable. Considering that GS 160 lists for $699.00, and you need to buy it for every computer you wish to run in your system, releasing VSL with the bundled NI playback engine might make purchasing VSL a lot more practical for people on a budget.

  • not to mention that once Kontakt solves their little update probs (disk-streaming and annoying AKAI CD import bug) what we´ll have there is a totally functional softsampler with the best interface ever (IMHO).

  • If I bought your Gigastudio Version of VSL would it work for Kontakt later when Kontakt has Disk Streaming and such? I really like Kontakt right now as far as gui and other things but I would like to use VSL now so I understand that I would need to use Gigastudio. I wouldn't want to have to buy the "Kontakt" version if I had the Giga version. The main reason I want a kontakt version is so that I can instantly turn midi parts to audio plus and different plugin effects instead of Gigastudio's route of having to turn the midi part to audio and THEN applying Effects. What's your thought?

Actually it's the basis of our Vienna Innovation Program (VIP) to offer _very_ reasonable up- and crossgrades for all or products. The thing is - we can't say how long a mapping for yet another sampler will take, and thus we can't say how much we will demand for this part of our work either, as long as we don't know how much effort it took to do it (... and we'll only do native mapping, no quick'n'dirty "import").

That only tells good things about VSL crew. THAT is caring for the product and customers way more than any upgrades or crossgrades you could evr offer.

That's VERY reassuring to hear. The soft sampler market is very much in a state of disarray, and many of us don't know which way to turn, even though we'd very much like to be using your product.

Perhaps when the Pro version is released, maybe a previous user could opt to switch platforms at no charge (since all the content would be different, anyhow).

  • I just surfed our own site a little bit, and I have to admit that the information is placed overmodestly :-] ... please, go to this page:

    http://www.vsl.co.at/products_statisch/orchestral_cube.htm?cmsqflag=1&cmslang=Englisch#">http://www.vsl.co.at/products_statisch/orchestral_cube.htm?cmsqflag=1&cmslang=Englisch#

... and click on the little blue sentence "What is the VIP-price" in the lower right corner of the main-frame to get an idea what we well do regarding cross- and upgrades.

There was more information on the CD-ROM I conceived last autumn, so if you happen to own this "Audio | Interactive"-CD you could also take a glance there.

  • You should be aware that Kontakt does import Giga files, but at this time, not keyswitching, and a few other features. I spoke to several composers at NAMM who were importing major Giga libraries and simply working with the sound itself rather crossfade mods, etc.

  • I've been a tester for Logic for over a year, and use Logic for over 10 years. And since they first introduced the EXS24, they only had 2 improvements, one of them more helpful than the first. They have virtually did nothing the users wanted, and that us testers begged for. The editor for it absolutely sucks. Their development on the instrument does NOT warrant a VSL library. Even though they have done something recently to make it possible to use the features on your library.

The fact that you are porting to this device and not to Kontakt just makes me sick. Emagic will let you down on this, IMHO.

Please port to Kontakt. It is a wonderful instrument, especially with the latest updates, and is not limited to merely one host that's ONLY works on ONLY one computer. You are wasting your time with this, IMHO. [:D]

thanks for your time & kind regards,
