    Hi Dietz,

    I remember reading something somewhere in this forum that you mix in protools. I do the same and have a verb question for you. I usually mix my orchestra down to stems (stereo vln's, stereo vla's,..etc..) and then mix in protools. I am using Altiverb and sometimes Reverb one or both. One thing that interests me though is if you use stereo sends into the reverbs or mono sends. Do you insert your reverb in Mono to Stereo mode and send in with a mono bus or do you send with a stereo bus (1+2 for example).

    I love altiverb but get "muddy" results when used too much verb (which I sometimes need).
    I love the verb sound of your demos, so I wanted to pick your brain...
    ..if you could elaborate a bit that would be great.

    Usually I try to work with true stereo reverbs (although it's not always really necessary, to be honest). To avoid the "muddiness" you describe I'm usually EQing the send-bus and/or the FX-return, rolling off the lows a bit, but especially taking care for certain "ringy" resonances which may obscure a whole mix.

    That is a really good way to mix, to capture stems and mix in a hard disk environment. This way, you can set all the volume and expression in the sequencer as you compose and get a pretty balance before going to tape (well disk actually) I like to even pan dead center if possible and do the panning on the hard disk software. You can even do delay pans where you use a little delay to give the effect of direction. Sometimes this is more realistic than just panning. It will really help things when the MIR and GigaPulse tools come out since you would get several stage positions to put your instruments in. Watch for this stuff, its pretty cool. If you have the ability to run more than one Altverb, that could help. Do a close and far setting or something like that to give some clarity to the front stage & backstage instruments.
