  • Release patches for Appassionata Strings?

I just got Appassionata Strings. This is my first Vienna Instrument and coming from EWQSO I'm trying to get used to the functionality of the Vienna interface. So, perhaps I'm missing something here:

I'm just pulling up patches and auditioning to see what everything sounds like, but when I pull up any patch in the folder called "99 RELEASE" for any of the strings I get no sounds when I play the keyboard. So for instance, I want to have the Celli play "random pizz" - how do I make that happen?

    Thanks!

  • Hi and welcome Ruckus,

the Release Sample patches cannot be played individually, they only work in combination with the respective articulations.

What do you mean by "random pizz"?

  • Thanks for the quick reply

    Lets see:

Drop down the folder called "27 Celli appassionata"
inside that drop down the folder called "99 RELEASE"
    there's a patch called "06 VC-12_RS_random-pizz"

I was just using that as an example- I want to be able to hear all of the release samples in the folder.

"the Release Sample patches cannot be played individually, they only work in combination with the respective articulations."

Okay, so I guess I don't understand what that means. How exactly do I use these patches "in combination with the respective articulations."

    Thanks!

  • All patches in the RELEASE folder are mapped to their corresponding regular patches. They will automatically triggered with each Note Off.
The same goes for the random pizz patch, which is placed in the "15 EFFECTS" folder.
You can generally switch these release sample patches ON/OFF using the "Play Release" button, which you can find on the perform page.

  • Okay, maybe we just hit on something. I don't have a "15 EFFECTS" folder.
So, was this a problem in my installation?

To be specific, if I drop down my "27 Celli appassionata" folder I have six folders:
    01 SHORT + LONG NOTES
    02 DYNAMICS
    10 PERF INTERVAL
    11 PERF INTERVAL FAST
    13 PERF REPETITION
    99 RELEASE

Under violins and violas I have the same 6 folders, under basses I have only three
and under "strings" I have only two.

So, does it appear I am missing patch folders?

  • I guess you only have the Standard library and you are using not a VSL key, which would offer demostarts for Extended content ?
In this case you won't see the "15 EFFECTS" folder, because all patches there are extended library content.

  • That's it- okay makes sense now. You're right. I used a key I already had, but thought I'd still get the 30 day trial of the extended library, just not the 30 free starts without registering or whatever.

Anyway, thanks for the quick replies and I'm now on the same page with you guys. Guess I need to go buy the extended library now : )

    Thanks!

  • ruckus, i've just sent out a demo activation code to your registered email address- we are currently issuing them just on request

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Giving a 30 day demo is an awesome idea. After having played with the "extra" articulations, there is no way I can NOT buy the extended content. Reaching for my wallet....

  • Hi Ruckus. Just to add my two cents to this, I was also confused by the silent 99 RELEASE patches. VSL explained that they work only in combination with the patches that use release samples and that they're not playable instruments in their own right.

When I asked why they were there in the display they answered that due to the design of the Vienna Instrument there was no way of hiding them!
