  • Fresh SE install - Have to reinstall the library???

I had to reinstall Windows, which means reinstalling all of my programs. All of my sample libraries, however, are loaded on separate hard drives, so I don't have to reinstall them. Some of the other instruments I have reinstalled (eg Ivory, GPO) breeze right through the installation because they recognize the libraries.

Not so, it seems, with VI Special Edition. After the installation it appears that I have to run the library installer (no patches appear when I open the program). Even though I designate the path as the existing library location the installation process creeps along installing the library again.

Is there something that I am missing? By the time I receive a response to this thread I'll probably have the libraries reinstalled (even though I've stopped for today), but I'd be interested to know in case this issue ever comes up again.

    Much thanks,

    Kirk

  • U only need to install the library plugins, and then afterwards open the Directory manager to point the plugin towards ur harddrive with the installed libraries. Also, remember to set the path to the custom matrices in the directory manager, or u might not get the plugin to show up.

using the directory manager - see also the video tutorial - you can tell the VI where your sample data reside. this works for moving the location of sample data as well as for a system re-install.

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • In this situation you don't need to re-run the Library Installer as the samples are already on your hard drive. Just run 'ScanTool.exe' to rebuild your directory. ("ScanTool" - not a very helpful name, is it?)

therefore it is called and listed in programs/applications as *directory manager* [;)]
of course under windows you could also launch the Directory manager running C:\\Program Files\\Vienna Instruments\\ScanTool.exe

  • Well, this morning VI can indeed find her samples. I guess she just needed a little sleep, or maybe a reboot. I do appreciate the speedy replies. All appears well.

    Thanks much,
