It's just a serial number, which you will get on a PDF certificate via email.
The extended sample content is already stored on your harddrive.

i'd like to point out you have licensed the standard library of a collection and do not own it - the owner is VSL.

regarding the extended libraries: you can purchase them at authorized dealers, distributors and online in the VSL webshop.
the latter method currently shows the serial number and activation code but does not create a serial number certificate during the process - this option will be added.

I have been thinking about buying the full "Appassionata Strings" extended version for a little while, I don't own the standard, but since you do, can you comment on how you like the shorter string articulations for faster string writing ? any additional comments regarding the timbre, quality, ..... etc.

Most of the audio demos, seem to focus on the lyrical slow, legato lines, although the demo by Christian Kardeis titled ' Anaheim Appassionatas', which does sound very good, exposes some of the shorter articulations, but IMHO just one demos is not engout to make a pro-evaluation, but since the extended App. Strings has quite a bit of short string articulations, in addition to the longer type articulations, I am eager to hear some feedback, comments, experience, or some additional App. Strings demos from users, that demonstrate how the shorter articulations sound, and if they blend nicely with the longer articulations.

Yes, Beat's additional demos did help a bit, many Thanks to him, but I still feel that I don't have enough feedback, both written comments, or audio material to make a good evaluation of the shorter Appassionata Strings articulations.

Basically, I would like to hear some additional comments/reviews from other users of "App. Strings" regarding their experience with the shorter articilations, and how they seem to blend with the longer string articulations, or possibly some additional audio demos will begin to appear on your forum, that will showcase the shorter App. Strings articulations, and how they successfully blend with the longer articulations.

To be honest, I havent owned (licensed! licensed!, dont shoot me! [[;)]] ) long enough to really move past the amazement of the legato lines and lushness of the long notes in App. Strings, rather than exploring the shorter articulations.

I will give those a try though and let you know if I find anything that might generate and interesting point of view.
My main reason for upgrading to the extended library is to get the delayed vibratos and stuff like that, again focusing on the longer notes (guess they are the most immediately breathtaking), but I will surely make use of the shorter articulations in time too.

One of the reasons I am asking more about the shorter articulations, is that a large string section, when playing shorter articulations such as Stacc., Marc., Spicc...etc. can produce wonderful string textures, which I like quite a bit, and are not usually available in other libraries, and logically, if you are using a large string section for a legato line, it would make sense to balance them with the shorter articulations of a large string section as well.

I'm quite confident that the VSL team that produced "App. Strings" did not waste there time recording the shorter articulation, or view them as just secondary bonus material, but, on the contrary, I think they would have given them all the attention, and importance that the longer articulations were given, so I find it a bit odd that not much exposure, or comments have been given to the shorter App. Strings articulations.

You know i was listening to the Anaheim demos, the Articulation demo and the one done exclusively for you and i hear nothing wrong with the short articulations. In fact it's the best I've heard so far, but maybe that's just me. The one in the articulation demo really impressed me as far as realism goes. But you cant expect it to behave like a smaller section.

I get the feeling you like the sound of appassionata but would like a smaller section for short notes. My advise to you, if you want really tight short notes, is to get Chamber strings Horizon it's really cheap right now and you'll get perf spiccato, staccato and short staccato, real short... + repetitions And get App standard and see if you like it enough to get the extended content later.

P.S. Man it almost sounds like you're trolling or something... I guess you're not but you're one tough customer!

No, I'm not looking for smaller chamber section short articulations, I have both "Chamber Strings" and "Solo Strings" of the Horizon series, in addition to "Opus 1". I just upgraded my studio with a new Mac Pro 8 core, so I will begin installing them for the first time in the near future.

I don't have any doubts that "Appassionata Strings" would be a great complementing strings library to the Horizon series strings, or vice versa.

As I have indicated earlier in my post, Large string sections produce a wonderful sounding texture when playing "short articulations", (Which I like quite a bit). So, this is the main area I would like to hear more comments, feedback, or some additional audio demos, so far I do not feel that there are enough examples that demonstrate the shorter articulations in action, but everything I heard so far sound great !

As far as your final comment ..... well, I view my self as trying to "shop smart", rather than being a "tough customer". My past experiences with rushing to buy a library has resulted in many decorative CD-Roms/DVDs, and a nice looking debit on my credit card statement, rather than useful sounds on my system, so I learned the hard way. [:)]
