henrik - you will find the files in USER AREA - VIENNA INSTRUMENTS - Software Updates

    several things to double check:
    - is your custom folder set to a certain location
    - has this location (folder) read & write permissions
    - in case of running any anti-virus or firewall applications allow local TCP calls (zone alarm and OS X firewall in stealth mode prevent this)
    - run disk utility to verify/repair permissions

does the directory manager *remember* the added locations after a reboot?
    christian

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Hi Christian!

    - is your custom folder set to a certain location

    >yes, to; /Users/henrikskram/Vienna Instruments Custom Data

    - has this location (folder) read & write permissions

    >I can change the permission to : owner: henrikskram (myname) instead of system, and hereby access the read/wrtie permission options. Should I do this?

    - in case of running any anti-virus or firewall applications allow local TCP calls (zone alarm and OS X firewall in stealth mode prevent this)

    >I haven´t installed any firewall-apps, are there any default settings in the OSX for this that must check?

    - run disk utility to verify/repair permissions
    >did this, all ok.

-does the directory manager *remember* the added locations after a reboot?

    >it does

Should I un-install Vienna before attempting to update?

    Thanks,

    Henrik

    Dear skram,

Where do I go to download an update, or for instance the tool for EXS ?

    Henrik

A tool for EXS is neither available nor necessary for Vienna Instruments since they come with its own Sample Player where all functionalities of the Performance Tool are already integrated.

Regarding your problem with VI content please try the following:

    1. Reboot

    2. Open Vienna Instruments Directory Manager and remove all (!) folders from your Directory Manager and add them again by Drag & Drop from your finder.

This is also explained in a Quick Guide Movie on our website:

    <How to use Directory Manager>:
    http://www.vsl.co.at/en-us/68/375/243.vsl

    3. Make sure that <put harddisks to sleep> is deactivated in your System preferences. That is the main reason why VI looses its content from time to time.

    Best,

    Maya

  • Hi Maya,

the <put harddisk to sleep> is deactivated, and has been so since before I installed Vienna.

I have dragged and dropped folders to the Direcory Manager. I dragged the folder containing the .dat files, not the .dat-files themselves, correct?

I have done everything else as described in your video, manual and by advice here on forum, and still this doesnt´work.

    Many thanks for your assistance!

Yes, please do this! I guess this will solve your problem.

  • Hi

(I have been away for about a week)

The access-permissions showed out to be correctly put in my username.

I am still not able to load in neither presets, patches nor matrices, and this is beginning to get ridiculous.

This is going to havae to be sorted out swiftly, by telephone if necessary, or else I must insist on a money-back deal, because this is just not working. I am using very valuable time on this, and projects are being stalled.

    Henrik

  • apologies - you should get your system in order swiftly ... because we are using even more than our valuable time to get issues fixed which have not at all something to do with VSL libraries, or else we must charge for this kind of support.

sorry, but i'm considering it as arrogant to assume everything not working is related to VI and reply in such a tone to people who are trying to help ...

  • sorry!
I was more than a little frustrated yesterday, please forgive.

    Henrik

  • could there be a confilct with having tried to convert vst to rtas?

I tried the FX expansion software to make VSL work with my DIGI 003 (protools LE) system, although it is currently not converting anything.

I am also running Cubase 4 and Logic, so I will maybe have to use VSL with one of those?

If I need to reinstall VSL, should I un-install it first, and if so, is there an un-install option?

Again, sorry for my little outburst yesterday..! I truly appreciate what you´re all doing here for us in this forum.

    Humbly yours,

    Henrik

  • though i've heard reports the latest PT (7.3.1cs4) and newest FXpansion wrapper works better than anything else related to RTAS before we couldn't proove it so far.
on a mac you could use VI with logic as plugin (AU) or with cubase as VST - both is available with the latest Vienna Instruments Software.

i'd just repeat all steps starting to get the stand-alone working
    - are the files on the hardisk (without sleep mode)
    - do the references appear in the directory manager
    - ist the custom data folder set with needed permissions
    - does the respective license appear on the key (in LCC)

changing something related to licenses, locations and references id' recommend a reboot to avoid cached data is read from some app in the chain.

logic sometimes needs to have the AU plugin validated manually, for cubase make sure the plugin is in the plugin folder or tell cubase to look for the VI plugin somewhere else.

  • - are the files on the hardisk (without sleep mode)
all the files are there. as .dat

    - do the references appear in the directory manager
only the folders appear, not the .dat files themselves.

I have tried to load in the root folder (Vienna) and the Vienna 100 Special Edition, together and each one by themselves.

    - ist the custom data folder set with needed permissions
    yes, they are read/write

    - does the respective license appear on the key (in LCC)
    yes, vienna key

I have not moved or changed anything.

my plugin-folder in Library>Audio>Plug-ins is empty, what should be there?

  • Hey Maya,

so I did as Christian prescribed (un-installed and re-installed, permissions verified.)

I noticed something though; on my soundlibrary-harddrive there was first one folder called Vienna and inside it the 100 SpecialEdition folder containing the .dat-files. Should it be like that? I tried moving the library to the root, deleted the "Vienna"-folder, did the restart and then loaded everything again in the DirectoryManager, but still the same; no presets.

    thanks,

    Henrik

  • Hello again!

I allow myself to post this again, as you are probably very busy

so I did as Christian prescribed, un-installed and re-installed Vienna, permissions are verified on all disks. (See prevoius threads)

I can still not load any patches or matrices!

I apreciate any help on this. It hasn´t worked for me yet..!

    thanks,

    Henrik

  • Hi Henrik. While you're waiting for guidance from VSL, may I ask you a couple of questions?

    1. When you start up the VI standalone, do you see any matrices or patches listed under 'Matrix Assign' and 'Patch Assign'? (In the PC version the VI shows the SE matrices listed in a folder called '/Special Edition - MATRIX files'; the SE patches are in a folder called 'Special Edition patches'.)

    2. How many .dat files do you see in the SE folder? (The PC version has 113, inside a folder called '100 SpecialEdition'.)

Hmmm, Henrik, I don´t understand what´s going on. Could you please send me a screenshot of your LCC main window and another one of a VI instance. Moreover I will need your System Profile - please select "About this Mac" from your Apple Menu and click on "More Info..." to open the System Profiler. When everything is loaded, please save the profile through File/Save as and send it to me please.

Please go through our tutorial video <Register & Install> to make sure that everything is installed properly..

I sent you a PM with my mail address.

    Best,

    Maya

  • same here, spent half a day now trying to get special edition to work on a customer's new imac. reinstalling, deleting prefs, checking permissions, killing processes before running dir manager again and restarting several times: no go, all i get is empty presets.
what's puzzling me: if i set a directory in dir manager and click on presets it doesn't show anything to load. and "rescan existing" doesn't seem to do anything as well.
i'd be grateful for any working advice.

  • I have the same problem too.
    No presets.

@ p.nuts and MikeLemon: I doubt that you have exactly the same problem like skram. If VI doesn´t see its content it helps to "reassign" the content as follows:

    1. Restart your computer

    2. Open Vienna Instruments Directory Manager and remove all (!) folders from your Directory Manager and add them again by Drag & Drop from your finder.

Just only pressing rescan won´t help. It is in fact necessary to remove all folders and to add them again by Drag & Drop from finder.
