  • Some newbie questions

    Hi all

I'm a newcomer to VSL. I just ordered the Special Edition extended package. That seemed like a good place to start.

I got some questions, if someone has a little time to answer any of them, that would be really nice of you!

    1. Here is a taste question. Of course it depends on the type of music you make, but regardless of that, which would be the bundle to buy, after the Special Edition. Anyone you find to be particularly useful/worth its price?

    2. For my portable setup, would my 7200RPM Lacie Little Big Disk (Firewire) be sufficient to run the Special Edition from my laptop (MacBook, 2GB Ram)?

    3. On my main setup, I'm on OSX 10.4.10 on a PPC G5, 2x2.7ghz, 4GB Ram (running Logic). Which harddrive would you recommend me buying for running VSL?

    Thanks a lot!

  • Oh forgot another question:

    4. It is said everywhere that VSL need a dedicated harddrive to run from.
Can VSL share that space with another large sample library, such as Ivory?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • welcome rasmus,
ad 2) yes, as long as you don't have a firewire audio device on the same bus which shows incompatibilites with simultaneously connected harddrives used for streaming
ad 3) any fast one (assuming you mean a second internal) - something around 500 GB won't hurt
ad 4) we understand *seperate harddrive* as one different from the system drive (or a drive you are recording to) - i'd recommend to keep ~ 20-30% free space on the drive for best performance

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
