I have ordered a a new 17in Mac book pro. 4 gig ram. the faster drive 7200 rpm. running Cubase 4
Will i need a sperate hard drive or the internal is ok to run both Chamber and appa. strings.
if external drive is needed what do recomend which one 400 or 800 or USB

would you prtition the internal drive for VSl if the internal drive is good enough.
    Thanks.

  • I use one external USB and one Firewire 400 hard drive without problem for the Vienna Library. The most important is the amount of RAM.

  • mazeka, you don't mention which audio device you're intending to use ...
wheras USB would be possible but far from optimal you should be careful having firewire audio and harddisk together.
using the internal disk (even a 7.200) is not recommended, but of course possible up to a certain load - to which device are you recording to btw, never stream from and record to the same disk.
the ideal configuration IMO would be a PCI express adapter either for harddisk or audio and the other device connected via firewire.

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • I will using A fire wire audio interface.
I don not want to share the fire wire bus aith the audio and the ard drive.
But since there is a firewire 800 I thoght I can use that fot the hard drive and the firewire400 for the audio device.
And by the way waho make PCIexpress for the Mac Book Pro. Cause I want to use the Tc Electronic powercore for reverb.Than you.

  • for connecting sATA to PCI express (34) slot do a search for *sata express card* - there are already lots of them. for audio at first apogee and RME are coming into my mind.

ps: still not sure if the 400 and 800 FW on the macbook pro do not connect to a single controller ....
