    I recently upgraded to an 8-core Mac.
    After downloading the upgrade files from your web site, I tried to run them. Since I've purchased the Orchestral Cube quite awhile ago, I assumed that the files would be updated. They weren't.

    The message " Please run Directory Manager and add ALL installed vienna instruments content to the list. ..."

    So I copied the folder into the Directory Manager. I didn't receove any meessage after clicking the "Rescan Existing" button. Is there anything else I need to do?

    After doing all of this, I noticed that Vienna Standalone isn't workling. It loads, but nothing appears on the scerren and I have to use force quit.

    Sometimes a complete shut down and reboot of the computer helps after rebuilding the Directory Manager.

    Some other things to consider (Please forgive any oversimplified suggestions):

    1. Synchrosoft/Vienna key was registered in your VSL user area?
    2. All library volumes are registered in your user area?
    3. Synchrosoft authorization downloads went without a hitch?

    I'm not certain about the answers to any of your questions. How would I go about checking?

    One more thought: my external array was acting strangely the other day. The drive lights went dim, and I received an error message after going through the ejection process. The array appears OK - I can open files and copy them.

    I tried to update the standalone player today (as well as the version that works with the Logic sampler). The website said there weren't any files which is strange, since I instanlled my version before there were any intel Macs.

    I'm running Vienna on a new Intel . (I let OS X transfer all of the filesbetween machines.) Because the files were on an external RAID array, I assumed that all I needed to do was attach the dongle and array and everything would work.

    This is the first time I've tried using VSL since the transfer between machines. Could this be the source of my problem?

    Based upon your latest info, it sounds as if the answers to questions 1 and 2 are not the issue.

    As for #3, RE: Directory Manager, it seems that even the error message you got confirms that some attention needs to be given to it.

    1. Open the Vienna Directory Manager utility (located in your main directory's Applications folder).

    2. Whether or not you see all of your Vienna Instruments in that window, remove everything (to get a fresh start)

    3. Manually navigate to the hard drive(s) where your instruments are stored. Open that directory to the level where the instrument folders are located-- ie: 14 Violins... etc.

    4. Select (shift/click) and drag all Vienna Instruments folders into the Directory Manager window. If you have other hard drives with other Vienna Instruments stored, navigate to those hard drives and repeat the process of shift/clicking and dragging those files to the Directory Manager Window.

    5. If you have a user custom location where you store your custom matrices, you can make that selection at the bottom of the Directory Manager window. If you do not have one, you can create one at this time.

    6. Quit all running applications and shut down the computer for 3-4 minutes. (This tends to work better than doing a simple restart.)

    7. Reboot the computer and start up your DAW.

    I'm not 100% sure if the process of automatically copying files would have brought over all essential components (visible and invisible files, for example). When I say that I'm not sure, that doesn't mean that it *doesn't* work. It's only that I've never done it and can't confirm one way or the other.

    Copying the instruments works fine, though, and if you've actually done an installation of the latest version of the Vienna Instruments application all possible file installations I can think of are covered.

    The VSL team might be able to address this a bit better.

    you are VERY cautious - i noticed actually a log off / log on is enough to remove the processes and re-read everything again.

    there are no hidden files within sample library data folders which are related to vienna instruments - copying works actually between XP and OS X

    you should also make sure your custom data folder has read & write permissions

    Indeed - there _is_ a difference between cold start and warm start (reboot)

    This is interesting.

    I'm now wondering just for the sake of Vienna Instruments if there are any benefits or differences with a cold boot vs a log-out/log-in as cm suggested.
