  • What articulations does Special Edition have?

    I'm so confused... so let me explain:

    All orchestral strings in Special Edition comes with Staccato, Detache, Sustained, Sforzato, Tremolo, Pizzicato, Legato, Portamento, "All Single-note Articulations."

    Ok, so there's no marcato. That's not hard to understand, but when watching the tutorial video "2_Speed_Control_1" they open up the SHORT + LONG NOTES folder and you see detache_short, detache_long_vib, detache_long_noVib and you also see sus_Vib-marc.

    So I was assuming that these videos contain all the VSL libraries, but what of that list seen on the video comes with SE version? What does SE generally come with?

  • Here is a listing of all of the articulations in VSE:

    http://vsl.co.at/shop/articulations_special_edition_new.htm?Lang=1&TopNav=2&SubNav=1&Menu=54&Detail=0&Region=2

    The videos were made with the Extended Libraries from the original cube, and came out before VSE was released.

  • Ok, I looked at that list, but I was wondering what articulations does SE come with when it says Detache, Sustain, Portamento, etc.

    The list doesn't mention detache_long or detache_short, but does SE come with it?

  • I am trying to understand someting.  the SE product page lists "portato" but I can't find that articulation in my patches or matrices. Am I missing something?

    Hi,

    I cannot find "portato" for any instrument in the articulation list of the Special Edition... do you mean the "portamento"?

    There are detailed manuals for all registered Vienna Instruments to be found here.

  • @Elan:

    The SE comes with one sort of detache. The different versions of detache you only have in the "big" VSL libraries. Also you have one sort of sustain eg.

    @dumbarranger56:

    I also read somewhere about "portato". But there isn´t an articulation in SE named "portato". I guess who wrote this maybe ment the articulation named "detache". Or maybe the SE patch "detache" indeed is portato? For my ears the detache-patch do not sound as if the bow direction changes after each note. Netherteless, great sound.[;)]

    Not to be pedantic, but they are very different bowing styles.

  • We've used  "portato" for labeling the medium short articulations of the wind instruments, this are the equivalents of the strings detache articulations (in Special Edition).
