Can't figure out this keyswitching

Hi.

I really hate posting because it's just going to show how clueless I am when it comes to anything technical. Ok. Just bought Vienna Special Edition, got it all installed and am stuck halfway through the first video tutorial. Here's the thing, I don't really understand keyswitching. I followed the video, added my stacatto, detaché and pizacatto patches and got them all working with the modulation wheel. Then added the legato in the column to the right of the other patches, put it on C1 - C#1 and can't figure out how to work it. I thought it corresponded with a key on the keyboard, once pressed it would change to legato but that doesn't seem to be working.

Can anyone help?

Check what octave you are playing. C4 is the International Standard Middle C, but some DAW and keyboard manufacturers choose to ignore this. Also check the position of the Mod Wheel, in case you are keyswitching to an empty patch.

Hi Eric. Don't worry about appearing clueless here, I do it all the time and it works for me. Did you know that you can't mix keyswitching and modwheel-switching methods within one horizontal row of cells? Has to be one or the other. Sorry if I've misunderstood what you're trying to do.

Yes, that's the idea. I usually check what octave the keyswitch is in by clicking on the keys of the VI's on-screen keyboard.

Of course! C1 is too low for my keyboard. I assigned it to C2-C#2 and now we're flying. Just give me some time and my common sense will start kicking in. And seriously, thanks for your help. I have the slightest hiccup and then start pulling out my hair. Not good. My hair is eternally grateful for your assistance.

You can assign every note as keyswitch! But consider that the keyswitch(es) shoud be out of the tone range of the particular instrument. So if you want to play a double bass a C2 keyswitch want work but perhaps C5, C6 ...

I will keep that in mind. I watched the tutorials yesterday and was giggling like a school kid with a new toy. There is so much you can do with the Vienna Instruments! They are so flexible! I'm already itching to extend my library.

And by the way, I love your demos. I downloaded quite a few of yours (and Jay Bacal's and Guy Bacos's too) and popped them onto my iPod just to remind myself what is capable with VSL.
