  • Simulating Solo Violins no-vibrato to virbrato... and back

    How are you guys handling solo violin techniques, specifically, starting from a non vibrato note, to fading into vibrato, maybe even fading into faster vibrato, and then back to no vibrato again.


    I've tried briefly fading cells into each other, but it certainly wasn't graceful, and usually resulted in the expected "2 patches playing simultaneously for a moment" as the crossfade occurred.

    Those of you who also own Garritan's Stradivarius Violin know that the ability to do that is one of it's main strengths, IMO. However, the Vienna Solo Violin sounds significantly better... I mean, by a large amount, so I would prefer to be able to emulate this technique using the Vienna Violin, as this is one of the basic techniques required, IMO, to get an instrument to "emote".

    Thoughts...?

  • That's a million dollar question. I don't think anyone can find an ideal solution at this moment, but I've heard Garritan's Stradivarious and what I don't like about it is that the vibrato is extremely recognizable from one note to the next despite the fader control, I'll be perfectly honest, I don't like it, the vibrato is there but at the same time it's annoying in other words it does not sound natural. However the idea is good and has potential. Hopefully VSL will also have something of that nature in the future butwith more variants that just more or less vibrato.

  • Absolutely agreed. The Garritan Violin concept is great, but the bottom line is that it still sounds "fake" to some degree, although it's almost there.

    The Vienna Violin sounds SOOO much better though. I guess we just wait for technology to get there...
