    Jut bought my first VI and was looking for an option to adjust the sample preload in seconds, as I know it from Halion, but couldn't find it.
    In the accompanying printed manual I saw no mentioning of streaming, but I assume the VI does streaming from HD?
    Is there a "preload in seconds" option, or is that done automatically?

    You have no option, as it is all done automatically.

    thanks for that explanation. So does VI have a fixed preload time? Or does it change the preload according to the circumstances.
    Even on a fast machine, circumstance change with the number of active VIs playing. E.g. more preload time need when running lots of instances.

    It's fixed - each stereo sample uses 64 kB as preload buffer. I assume that another 64 kB is used for looped instruments or instruments with release samples.
    It's a bit unfortunate that it cannot be changed, but maybe the developers argued that RAM use isn't very important for small arrangements and for large ones one needs higher preload buffer sizes anyway so the ease of implementation was deemed more important than making it configurable.

    Thanks for the info.
    64 kb, how many milliseconds would that be?
    My calculation for 24 bit with 44100 samples per second. About 0.25 seconds I assmume, providing the 64k are unpacked already.

    You have to calculate a 16bit size, because of the compressed format.
