    I'm not far off getting Altiverb but what I'm not clear about is if Altiverb covers all the panning issues. if I'm hosting numerous VIs in the new Sibelius 5 with altiverb inserted as an effect How would you do the panning?

    Is there a seperate item of software that has to be inserted as an effect to deal with panning?

    I'm talking full orchestra stuff.

    Gosh eight days and 111 views later and no response - now either people just don't like me or my question doesn't make sense.

    The problem is the Vienna Instruments as I understand it do not respond to midi panning. So if i try and adjust panning in the host application nothing happens.

    I assume I am right, but would like someone to confirm, that if I insert Altiverb as an effect in the host that as well as providing the room sound Altiverb also does the panning or do I also have to get seperate panning software VST as well as Altiverb?

    You use multiple AV instances (with the tail switched off) for placement and then one instance with just the tail for the "mix". By placement I mean panning and depth in the room, so basically the answer to your question is "YES".

    Altiverb gives you a stage positioning window where you place the instrument (shown as a pair of speakers) where you would like it on the stage. So its reverb is calculated based on its position on stage, relative to the mic placement for the hall (which you can also choose, based on several options).

    I think (not sure tho) that you can dload a demo of Altiverb. You should check it out. If you're doing any kind of orchestral, filmscore, instrumental, or classical-type music, it really will become the most valuable tool in your arsenal.
