  • FREE MEMORY PROBLEM

    [:D] just bought my strings 1 & 2 full yesterday [H]
for now i just want to play and think about setup problems later. So my question is noob but please understand.

first of all : does this forum search function work ? ... search goes on and on with no result (for me [[:P]])

if i use VSL stand alone i get this message :
Audio device is busy or not funcioning at given parameters...
But it works great if i use a host called CHAINER.

Now, using chainer, if i put a VSL VST on channel 1 and VSL VST on channel 2. both of my VSL receive all channels [[:P]] how do we set VSL on specific channels ? (dam noob question [:O]ops: )

  • Hi, and welcome to the world of VSL [:)]

To answer your search question. Search works, but takes a while and is generally very poor (i.e. its not a very good search engine)

  • thx christian [[;)]]
for some reason, my problem is solved .... had to reboot and all is fine [:P]
let's enjoy this vsl stuff [[[;)]]]

  • aaa . one more noob question

i'm just playing around with different matrix .. one speacial thing is my free memory going down [:P]
i load a matrix. i start to play ... and the more i play the more my free memory slightly goes down ... why ?
i have registred the standard and waiting for a mail to register the extended .. is that the reason ?

    EDIT ---

    i did a Memtest86 (7pass no errors)

  • any idea ? [*-)]

  • any system specs?
after you load a patch memory should stay at a constant value ... what else is in the game?
    christian

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • hi thx for answer [;)]

    sorry : xp pro sp2 / 1Gb ram / mobo K8N / amd 3500+
i'm planning to buy xtra ram and use LAA

loaded memory stay the same .. only free memory goes down slowly.
If i bypass the vsl (not the button top left of the vsl window vut on the VST host (chainer) then free memory goes back to normal ... then goes down again [:P]

i guess it comes from the VST host .. i should try another one to make sure. But i don't have this with DFH superior drum (another sampler)

  • we had a setup where Vstack was inserted into chainer (or vice versa, can't remember exactly) to exceed the 16 channel limit and we didn't notice such a behavior.
one thing is not clear to me though: how can the loaded memory stay the same when free memory decreases - means: where does it go?
see if you can get some clue watching the processes tab of the task manager (add colums Mem Usage and VM Size if not visible and check the box *show processes from all users*)

sorry if i missed it, but: what is your sequencer and audio device and runs everything on one machine?

dam .. sorry [8-)] audio card is : M-Audio audiophile 24/96 sequencer is on another machine. i only use CHAINER + VSL on this PC. (i use chainer.

  • ok, so keep us updated who might eat your free ram, we didn't notice this with chainer so far.
in the past i had a similar effect on a macbook aluminium with a hammerfall multiface and logic/exs - RME provided an updated driver for a not published change in the chipset driver to solve this issue.
though another platform and application the reason might be similar.
