  • Which version of the V.I. Player hints?

If two copies of the V.I. Player on a hard drive are both about 11.5MB on disk, are they the exact same version? Are there any obvious ways of telling versions apart?

Reason for asking: at one point I put all the V.I. Player-related stuff into a folder, including the Player itself. Then I must have installed another Collection that put another copy of the Player loose in my Applications folder.

Now I'd like to get rid of one of them - the older one if there's any difference - but Get Info doesn't list the version numbers or compilation dates and there's no About info in the program itself. Plus the file sizes are slightly different on disk, which is normal.

  • Hi Nick - this is on a Mac, right? When you 'get info' on the VI application you should see a 'Created' date which will at least tell you which is the older. As you say, size doesn't matter (though the dozens of e-mails I receive every day assure me the opposite is true) - I have VI v1.06 and v1.1 on the PC and they appear to be identical in size.

  • Vienna Instruments Standalone.app, VSL-Server.app, vsldaemon.app: modified 01.03.2007 (date is dd.mm.yyyy) is version 1.11

  • Thanks cm.

And thanks, Conquer. We're on the same mailing lists. I guess it's targeted advertising?

Actually I've been using Macs all day long for 21 years so I do know about Get Info. [:)] The problem is that it lists the installation date as the creation date, but it didn't occur to me to check the vsldaemon and server programs too.
