• Using Appassionata Strings

Hi there

I'm keen to buy and use the Appassionata Strings but my PC is running XP Service Pack 1, Pentium 4 (1.7Ghz), 1GB RAM, Cubase SX2.2. Does it have to be a VST plug in? I have a Gigastudio (2.5) on a more powerful machine..... I notice the reccommended power is PC Intel/AMD 2 GHz (3++ GHz recommended) with Windows XP.
Also, I don't have a DVD drive in the Cubase machine - I do of course have one in my giga PC.....

1 GB RAM (2 GB recommended)
VST (OS X, Win XP) or AU (Mac) compatible host (also works stand-alone)
DVD drive for installation
Fast separate harddrive with 18 GB free space for Appassionata Strings
88 key master keyboard (highly recommended)
ViennaKey (Vienna Symphonic Library USB Protection Device)
Syncrosoft License Control Center 5.2.6.4 or higher

Anyone got any advice?

Thanks
Neil

• Hi Neil,

You certainly need a DVD drive to install a Collection - the only other way is to install it to an external harddisk from the CP with the DVD drive, and then connect the disk to the computer you want to use for the VIs.

The recommended 2GB RAM are not without reason - makes it much easier to work with more instruments. You can of course run the stand-alone VI, but then you only get one instrument, so the VST plug-in is the way to go because you can load several instances of that with different instruments.

Kind regards

• you could also install it using a DVD drive on another computer shared over network.
the Vienna Instruments Player does not like very much to run on machines optimized for gigastudio (values for paged und unpaged pool changed), but you could give it a try ...

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
• Thanks guys - interesting.

So, is the Vienna Instrument Interface a VST instrument? If so, I'll need to buy a new PC since my mother PC is almost at full capacity in terms of hard disk space and RAM (running Atmosphere, Absynth, Halion, VLP etc etc).
The new PC would then have all the system requirements.... If I did, anyone know a good supplier of music PC's? I have used Carillon Audio in the past but they are rather expensive...

Best,
Neil

If not, then maybe try Rain recording, as the guy running it used to be with Carillon anyway, and their machines are better specced.
