  • Using pfp with VI

    Here's a thing.

How does one do pfp articulations with the VI. I can't really find the samples or presets anywhere. I'm usually afraid to touch controllers if I can help it. So how does one achieve a pfp.

I'm guessing one has to use Velocity Crossfade which I guess does give me a lot of control over the pfp but still I thought i'd ask.

    Tah

  • Most instruments (iirc) simply have a pfp patch, just ike in pro ed. Some dont.

They are in the "Dynamics" folder.

  • Intersting. I can't find any instruments in the Chamber strings or Special Ed. that have the pfp .. is it called something else. Maybe I've gone video blind [:P]

  • hetoryn, you have to use xfades for dynamics, my friend. It's a must - i mean the pfp patch is nice as well but it has a very limited purpose.

hehe - well. It seems you have two of the more compact collections. Chamber strings has less articualtions than the standard violins or solo. I too have been a bit sad of the lack of pfp in Chamber strings.

However I beleive the most common ensembles have the pfp patch.

  • hehe, Yeah I guess I'm gonna have to put away my deep rooted fear of controllers and start to use the x-fade with velocity. I think I will invest in a Breath control midi device eventually for velocity. Seems the best way to control things like dynamics.

I have the pfp's on my First Edition if I get too lost. I'm still very shy about using multi-layering of sounds, dynamics and stuff .. so the VI player to me is rather daunting. I know it can do lots of great things. I'm just used to the more manual way of writing.

  • Dont worry about the modwheel dynamics. In teh context of things it works great.
