  • Anyone Having Success Using THIS Particular VI Setup???

My composing partner and I are need to find out if any VI user is having fairly consistent success in using a particular PC setup that we are considering. Here is the would be setup:

    PC, with Windows XP:

Nuendo; VI ; Forte; Some VSL Samples with Performance Tool; GVI as VST; and a 3 Gig Switch for smoothly loading several instances of VI (at least 3) without any cutoff problems.

If anyone IS using this particular setup, we would appreciate any feedback, Good, Bad or Indifferent-Thanks!!

  • My set-up is similar:

PC (2 Gig of RAM) with Windows XP Pro, Forte hosting VI, GVI and occasionally Kontakt 2. Sequencing and recording are done on a separate computer (Logic on a Mac G5).

In this set-up I have used the Performance Tool on VSL's 'Overdrive' guitar (not yet available as a VI) and it works fine. I use the Maple Virtual MIDI Cable (freeware) to route the Perf Tool's MIDI output into Forte.

I find the set-up works smoothly with up to four instances of the VI running alongside GVI and Kontakt 2, all under Forte. Beyond that it starts to creak and I have to consider using the VI's 'learn' and 'optimize' features to reduce the amount of samples. That works very well.

Four instances of the VI doesn't sound much but the VSL patches are very sample-heavy and my 2 Gig of RAM is not large by contemporary standards!

  • Thanks for the reply Conquer- are you using the 3 Gig switch in your setup as well??

  • My Bad,

I forgot that you only have a 2 GB PC setup-Please scratch that question!!

  • Sure could use more than 2GB though . . . [[;)]]
