  • OS 10.4.9 - VI has Varying Loading Times

Yesterday loading a single empty instance of the VI plugin in Logic 7.2.3 took 6 minutes and 25 seconds. This was after repairing permissions and checking the disk with Apple's Disk Utility (which found "nothing to repair"). (This disk had its directory rebuilt with DiskWarrior 7 days ago.)

Today, after again rebuilding the directory with DiskWarrior, repairing permissions (Since the advent of OS 10.4.9 Disk Utility always finds exactly the same permissions to repair after every restart) and running Apple's Disk Utility (which, as it did yesterday, found "nothing to repair") loading a single empty instance of the VI plugin took 1 minute and 10 seconds. The shorter loading time was characteristic of performance under OS 10.4.8 - - which did not require frequent rebuilding of the disk directory to achieve such loading times.

    Anyone else notice this?

  • Bump

  • Steve, this happened to me until I downloaded the combi updator for 10.4.9 from the Apple site. Using the software update in OSX for 10.4.9 resulted in many problems for music programs apparently. Try this and you will find you will no longer have to repair disc permissions any longer.

  • David:

Thanks for the tip. I downloaded the Combi updater and re-updated to 10.4.9. I repaired permissions before and after updating, I rebuilt the directory with DiskWarrior, restarted, repaired permissions again (same permissions repaired again). I aunched Logic 7.2.3, opened one instance of the VI plugin, loading time was 1 minut 5 seconds. After working for several hours I quit Logic and ran "Repair permissions" once again. this time there were no repairs noted. I rebooted from another drive (also running 10.4.9 updated with the Combi updater). Later I rebooted from the first drive. I ran "repair permissions" - - but this time the usual list of repaired permissions appeared. I launched Logic and instantiated one instance of the VI plugin. Loading time was 3 minutes and 10 seconds. Quit Logic, repaired permissions, no repairs, rebooted from the same disk, repaired permissions - same list of repaired permissions reappeared. Opened Logic again, instantiated VI plugin - loading time was 2 minutes 40 seconds. In other words, loeading times remain inexplicably variable and are quick only immediately after the directory has been rebuilt with DiskWarrior
